Hurricanes Hire Another New Business Manager

The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced the hiring of Terry Huisman as the club’s new Business Manager on Wednesday.

The hiring of Huisman was necessary after family and personal related challenges with David Harris, who was hired in July, required him to leave his position and return to his family in Ontario. With Training Camp starting in just two weeks the Board of Directors needed to make a decision quickly to move forward. President, Don Clark says “the hiring of Huisman is a good fit for the team as he brings years of sales and marketing experience to the Hockey Club. He’s an experienced businessman that can bring fresh ideas to our organization.”

Born and raised in Lethbridge, Huisman has over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing in Southern Alberta. With his background Huisman believes he’ll be able to generate and guide the organization and most importantly the business operations in the right direction. “I’m honored and excited to be joining the Lethbridge Hurricanes and I looks forward to working closely with the Board and the current team to implement new ideas and direction to the business operations of the club” stated Huisman.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes extend their well wishes to David Harris and his family. Huisman will begin his duties with the club on August 20th, 2012.

  1. We read the article in the paper today. We find it hard to believe that the only two people to step up and do extra in the last five months were the two men in the office and not one of the women. The wife is always saying this board is still run like an old boys club. I guess she is right. The rest of the staff deserve and apology at the very least.

  2. I'm unclear if you're blaming the "old boys club" or the lack of women involved in it????? Not sure how you place blame on the "old boys club" if no women are interested in being on the Board? Darren

  3. Old Boy's Club....first of all the reference to two people stepping up was in regards to sales! The two men that handle sales have had more put on their plates due to the Business Manager's situation. All the other office staff (women) are currently busy handling getting things ready for the coming season.(part of their normal duties with a few added because of the situation). As for it being an "old boys's Club', I would think that Adele Barrington would take exception to being called an "old boy". Who is she? A board member!

  4. This is incompetence defined. Private ownership please.

  5. I am sure private ownership could not have prevented Mr.Harris personal issues in Ontario. Had it not been for that, he would be the business manager.

  6. ANON 9:51 is bang on. Regardless of the ownership situation, it had absolutely nothing to do with the ownership of the Hurricanes. There were family and health related issues that forced Mr. Harris to return to Ontario. No other reasons, no hidden agenda, period!

  7. With a loss of more than $600,000.00 this year, this year's AGM had better be well attended. The team is broke and the City of Lethbridge I hear is paying the bills. As a taxpayer this offends me almost as much as seeing that there has been nothing done to change the future fortunes of the club. There are seven positions open on the board this year and I sincerely hope that there are seven new individuals with some NEW ideas as to how to turn things around. This may be the last year of the Hurricanes as we all know them.

  8. Interesting to see comments like "I hear the city is paying the bills". This is the kind of complete misinformation that has plagued this team for years. The loss is accurate according to the recently released financial statement available to the shareholders at the Hurricanes office. The second part of the statement is completely false. Had the city been paying the bills for the Hurricanes, I know the league would have stepped in by now.

What is true, is that if people don't start supporting this team, win or lose, it will eventually have to be sold and good or bad, private ownership will change the way the Hurricane organization exists today.

Lethbridge's penchant for supporting this club only in winning season's is going to be the death of one of the few community teams left in the WHL. At that point I can guarantee who'll be listening to all the complaints, No One!

  9. ANON: 625pm I echo your comments completely. The amount of 'misinformation' that surrounds the franchise is ridiculous. You are right, it also harms the franchise.
I too know for absolute certainty that the City of Lethbridge is absolutely not.....not footing the bill or any part of the bill for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Not only is that wrong, so is the number of board positions that are up for grabs. There are not 7, there are 6. There is always a turnover of 5 spots each year, thus keeping continuity with the other 10.

I wish the complainers, the producers of inaccurate and in some case false information should channel all that energy into positive support for this club........or as ANON 6:25 states, the option may be one we won't like. Mind you it will give those who take great joy in complaining, something more to complain about.

  10. Sorry, perhaps I didn't make myself as clear as I could have. The renos at the Sportsplex cost 30+ million dollars and I believe that the Hurricanes have agreed to pay over a number of years a huge sum. I thought the number was 2 million over (x) years. To date I don't believe the 'Canes have paid any of this "bill" which means the City of Lethbridge is helping prop up the team as they are cash poor. These are still tax dollars they are using. I suppose sooner or later the team will be better off financially to begin paying their commited share, but so far that is not the case.
Also, sorry about the number of openings for the board this year. I was unaware that one of the members that quit last year has the term up this year.
Last but not least, the team this year has so much more potential than the last three years combined. While there are a few holes to fill, the team will make it into the playoffs this year and it would not surprise me to see them having home ice advangage in the first round if all stay healthy. Then if people stay away, it will be a sad day indeed for the franchise. It will be so much more fun complaining about the inept officiating and dirty players from other teams rather than complaining about long losing streaks. Some of the young guns are going to open the eyes of fans and scouts this year. Things will be better and soon!
