Silvertips Claim Landon Oslanski

EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips have claimed defenseman Landon Oslanski off waivers from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the club announced Thursday afternoon.

Oslanski is entering his overage year in 2012-13 after spending the past three seasons in Lethbridge.

Oslanski, 20, broke onto the WHL scene in 2009-10, playing one game with Spokane before being traded to Lethbridge in September in the same deal that sent former Silvertip Kyle Beach to the Chiefs. He has since gone on to play over 200 games for the Hurricanes over the past three seasons. The 6-foot, 202-pound defender enjoyed a career season last year, compiling 32 points (6g/26a) and 94 penalty minutes in 71 games. One of those six goals came on November 2 against Everett, when he tied the game at three to help the Hurricanes eventually take home a 4-3 shootout win.

Hailing from Camrose, Alberta, Oslanski was originally selected by Spokane in the third round (#56 overall) of the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft. He has scored 16 goals and added 54 assists for a total of 70 points to go with 239 penalty minutes in 207 career games.

Pat

  1. No comments from the Canes Pat? You had to get your info from the Everett website??? We wish Landon well...unfortunate that we didnt even get draft picks for him. I guess the 20 year old battle as predicted will be between Hood and Buonassisi. With Tot's scoring gone I thnk the edge may go to Buonassisi....will be a tough decision but whoever leaves hopefully the Canes will get something. RG

  2. I was thinking the Canes would go with Buonassissi over Hood. But with Tot gone now, that opens up a high spot at LW, which is usually where Hood plays. Who else would be in that role? Yakubowski and Leverton were the only other regulars at LW last year.

  3. I didn't realize the WHL had a "waiver" list. Just wondering if the Canes shopped Oslanski around or not? There's still over a week before training camp opens and even more time before the overage deadline, so not sure what the rush was to rid Ozzy? The closer we get to the start of the season, the higher the offers are for players (generally speaking). Something had to give on defence with Pilon coming in, but sometimes these preseason moves seem to happen a little too early before other teams have had a chance to fully evaluate their needs.

  4. Interesting the Hurricanes reprinted the Silvertips press release on Oslanski on their website and have no comment themselves on his departure. Could have at least thanked Landon for his past contribution. Seems rather classless .....on behalf of the fans thank you Landon and best of luck in Everett....

  5. Olsanski was shopped. No takers.

  6. Classless? They released him so he could go to Everett, rather than hold him on the roster until it was too late and he was out of a job. Or are you just looking for any cheap shot?

  7. Exactly! The Canes did the right thing in giving him a chance to play elsewhere. As for being classless, I don't see why the club needs to publicize every conversation it has with its players. The club made it well known that two of its overagers would be gone before training camp started up... and they followed through with it.

  8. I'm assuming we have enough d-men to fill the void of these Ozzy and Kizuik?? Galbraith, Erkamps, Pilon, Blomqvist, Johnston and ?? Topping??

I wish someone in the Canes front office (hello tech support!) would clean up the roster on their website. They've still got last year's roster up.

  9. I love how people are so ready to criticize anyone that has to do with the Hurricanes (other than the players....season hasn't started yet). Complaints about the roster on the Hurricane web site. Well rather than complain, I checked out the roster information for the other teams in our division. Calgary,Edmonton, Red Deer, Medicine Hat and Kootenay all still have their 2011-2012 rosters on their websites. My guess is that they will not update them until just before the season opener.
