The Lethbridge Hurricanes hit the road Wednesday morning for their first big trip of the still very early WHL season.
The Canes' will travel to Everett, Washington and hunker down there for a few nights. The Hurricanes will play Seattle Friday night at the ShoWare Centre in Kent, WA. After that, the Silvertips will provide the opposition for Lethbridge at Comcast Arena, and then the road swing will close out Sunday evening at the Rose Garden in Portland, OR.
Hurricanes Head Coach and G.M. Rich Preston was on Hurricanes This Week Monday night. He says the club has already been preparing for their next three opponents. Preston was asked about the Canes' 2-0 start to the season. He says although he's happy with the way things have gone and the strong play from a number of players, there is still "a lot of work that needs to be done." Preston says he's particularly impressed with the play of his two goaltenders, Brandon Anderson and Dylan Tait and said both players will play this weekend in the U.S. Austin Fyten, Cam Braes, and Mitch Maxwell have had very strong starts too.
Coach Preston was also asked about secondary scoring. He said he believes some of players like Hood, Berglund, Tot, Kuvaev, Ramsey and Sutter will step up this season and provide some much needed goal production from across the line-up. Preston also said he expects to get a lot more offence from his defence, an area that the team really struggled in last season. He said scoring will have to be done by committee on this team.
I'll have more from the Pacific Northwest over the next few days as the Canes' get set to take on their next three opponents. After this weekend, the Hurricanes will be at home for a couple of weeks. Lethbridge will host Prince George for it's home opener October 8th at the ENMAX Centre, which is still under renovations. The Kootenay ICE will be in Lethbridge the following night on the 9th.
Thanks,
Pat
