Rich Preston on "Hurricanes This Week"

Well, week one of the WHL season is in the books and for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, I don't think you could ask for a better start to the 2010-2011 campaign.

The Canes' are 2-0 after the first couple of games with wins over Calgary (5-3) and Medicine Hat (3-1) on the road. Both of those games really were carbon copies of one another. The Hurricanes got off to very slow starts in each game, but as the games went on, Lethbridge seemed to get better and better. There was a similar turning point I thought in each game that seemed to turn the momentum into the Canes' favour. That turning point was a fight. From that point on in both games, the Hurricanes were better, stronger, and more confident.

Let's be honest here too. The Canes' goaltending in the first period of the Calgary and Medicine Hat games was what gave the Hurricanes a chance to win. Brandon Anderson and Dylan Tait played lights out. That was where both of the wins started. Had it not been for the goaltending, perhaps the results would've been different. Offensively it was Austin Fyten who had the best weekend. He finished with five points in those two games. Overall, it was great start to the season for Lethbridge, now the hope is that will continue in week two.

The Hurricanes will hit the bus early Wednesday morning for a long ride to Everett, Washington. The Canes' will take on Seattle Friday (8:30pm MDT), Everett Saturday (8pm MDT), and then finish off the U.S. trip in Portland on Sunday evening at the Rose Garden (6pm MDT).

  1. I don't expect that Preston will keep them together all year, but I think that if they both stay healthy, Braes and Fyten will both score 40 goals this year, with a realistic shot at 50 goals and 100 points each. - Richie.

  3. Sorry for the late response. The podcast will be up today (Thurs). I've been told that as of next week, the podcasts should be uploaded to our wesbite and iPhone app the following day after each show. So it should be up at some point every Tuesday.
