  2. I have a few problems with this. The first being the team is broke and now they are giving away money. Second; I donate to charities every year. It is my money and I choose who to donate too. If the team has to much money they can refund me the $25.00. I chose to use my money to support the HURRICANES NOT THE CHARITIES THEY DECIDE TO GIVE MY MONEY TO. Even at 1600 season tickets thats $ 40,000.00 they are giving away. Makes total sense for a broke team to give away money. Just one more thing this team has done that makes me wonder who came up with this idea and how they convinced others that it was smart. KAOS

    1. They are required to donate a certain amount of funding each year as they are registered as a charity. They do not have a choice, it is required by law. Admittedly they could take the fund and entertain submissions from charities as to who should get the funding.

    2. Registered charity? Required by law? Where do you wing nuts get your information? I keep hearing that the Hurricanes are registered as a charity. While the way they run their operation, ant the sorry lack of profits may resemble a charity, they are not, never have been, nor never will be a charity. This is a business, with an expectation of profit, and a duty to pay taxes. It seems to me that part of the issue with this group is the absolute lack of proper information available, and the crazy garbage, wrapped up as "in the know" information that is spewed. Having an opinion is fine, at least make sure it is based on proper facts. And, why is it, that the people who spout the most nonsense are always anonymous? Things that make you go hmmmmmm

    3. Well probably from being on the board in the past and from the "wing nut" lawyer that sits on the board. I am sure he would be quite impressed with your enlightened opinion. You have no idea what you are talking about. More concourse ramblings from Chuck. Get on the board and find out from yourself.

    4. It is interesting that you consider the legal council for the team, who, by the way, has provided his services to the club since 1986, a wing nut. Facts are facts.

  3. Gun to your head? $420 to renew early, or $440 to wait and renew later. Didn't know $20 could buy a gun. You negative guys are funny, always something wrong with the Canes. Go ask for your money back then, sell you share to someone who cares... and shut up!

    1. There's NOTHING funny about this franchise. The laughs died out years ago. There's also nothing positive about this franchise, so telling people to "shut up" rings hollow.

"Always something wrong with the Canes." At least you got that part right!

    2. The only thing ringing hollow is your opinion, and the humour lies in your ignorance. The fact that you can identify nothing being positive proves both points. I would suggest the number one thing wrong with the franchise is the "fan base" that treats it like you do. No need to shut up... but please be quiet when you are talking to me!

    3. You're not my father, so I feel this conversation is over. I'll say what I want when I want. I may be ignorant, but I'm not stupid. Your stupidity showed through once again. The fan base treats this franchise as it should.......one that is run by a Board that can't see passed its own arrogance.

Maybe you are used to speaking to your kids this way, but I'm not one of them, so time for you to start acting tough behind your computer and speaking to those of us on here with more respect. You only get what you give and so far, you've not given any respect to us. So, I continue to speak to you as a feel.

  4. There is an interesting response to a person expressing their opinion......'SHUT UP!" Does that ever remind one of the swearing by the BOD president at the shareholder vote to vote meeting.
I do agree with the charities comment. I too donate to which ever charity I support. That is why I say, "no thank you" to the poor cashiers at all the big box stores when they ask, would you care to donate to the ******.
Oh just in case, I did purchase my season ticket (9th season) in April.

  5. So as for donating to Charities... The BOD have a committee called the onside committee. This committee is responsible for raising funds through events and the money raised gets donated back into the community. They have in the past held Celebrity Sports Dinners, Poker Tournaments, Jersey Auctions...etc. These are the funds the Hockey Club uses that goes back into Lethbridge and southwestern Alberta. This is all apart of being a community owned hockey team and its responsibility to have an impact to help the less fortunate and be a leader. Here are some clear and solid facts......

  6. Nobody is disputing the efforts put in by the Onside Committee and the monies raised for various charities. I know that the funds from the jerseys I have purchased at the auction or the items at the celebrity dinner will go towards local charities. Plus (all of us who attend games) know that local charities have the opportunity to raise funds either through the nightly jersey draw or the "chuck-a-pucks". But it is the $25 per season ticket that is going to a charity, that is the crux of the matter. As pointed out by a previous writer, the team can ill afford to donate $40,000 when it is in dire straits financially. (That amount will increase as season tickets increase).

    1. To donate back to the community is a requirement by law. What is always disputed is how much to give back when losing money. Donate a little and it reducesl community awareness. Donate too much and it affects the bottom line.

    2. What requirement? What law? What are you talking about?

    3. Articles of Incorporation, the Companies Act, Charities Act. Phone the team lawyer for details. Unfortunately for some, the Club is not a "free for all" and they cannot do whatever they want. There are guidelines, rules, and they are firmly in place in accordance with all Acts. A demonstration of this adherence to Corporate Law was on full display at the Extraordinary Meeting, June 1, 2015. Hope you were there. If you are a shareholder you can probably call the Hurricane office and arrange to view all the documents on site or at the lawyers office.

  7. I am sorry but this makes No sense to me. So do all charities have to do this ( give away money). This would be understandable if the Hurricanes were a NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATION, that was making to much profit but not as a CHARITY. Why is this the first time it has ever been mentioned at least that I am aware of.

  8. Call the lawyer for clarification. I may be a bit out with who what, etc., but as community based, donating is part of their equation

  9. So I called the Hurricanes office to clarify the idea of donating $25 dollars for every season ticket sold. I was told it is $25 dollars for every season ticket that was sold AFTER the early bird renewal date. The number you are talking about being donated is a far cry from $40000.... If you have questions try phoning the main office. It might help squash all this hearsay and rumors before you spout off KAOS...
