Canes Trade Zane Jones to Giants

The Lethbridge Hurricanes made a trade following their win over Saskatoon Friday, sending Zane Jones to the Giants for Johnny Wesley.

Jones was acquired from the Everett Silvertips in the second week of the season for a 4th round 2015 WHL Bantam pick. The 20-year old from Olds began his career with the Victoria Royals then played for Calgary before winding up in Everett last season. In 38 games with the Hurricanes, Jones was tied for second in team scoring with 30 points, including a team leading 18 goals.

Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager and Head Coach, Peter Anholt says “Zane has been a solid player for us since being acquired in September from Everett. He’s given us size up front, he’s been a huge contributor offensively and he’s been active in the community. We wish Zane all the best moving forward with Vancouver and thank him for  his hard work and dedication to us the past few months.”

Johnny Wesley, a 6’0, 190 pound left winger from White Rock, BC has been playing with the Surrey Eagles in the BCHL. In 31 games, the 17-year old has 5 goals and 16 assists. He also suited up for one game with the Vancouver Giants this season, scoring one goal.

  1. If you read the WHL article it appears to be a swap of 3 overage players with it being started by Kamloops who went after Joel Hamilton from Vancouver, Vancouver then trades for Zane Jones and the Hurricanes then trade for Mike Winther from Kamloops. So the Canes get Wesley for Jones.

Jones has been a very solid performer for the Canes but this move only furthers Anholt's move to get younger.
