Canes Acquire Goalie From Victoria

The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced Thursday they have acquired goalie Jayden Sittler from the Victoria Royals in exchange for a 7th round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2016.

At 6’0 and 184 pounds, Lethbridge Hurricanes Head Coach and GM Peter Anholt expects the 1996-born netminder to be a veteran presence in goal. “He’ll be able to compliment Stuart Skinner; push him in practice as well offer him support as we move forward.”

Sittler spent the past two seasons with the Red Deer Chiefs in the Alberta Midget Hockey League. Last season he posted a record of 12-4-2 with a 2.03 GAA and a .913 save percentage. He was also part of the Chiefs team that made a run and captured the 2013 TELUS Cup.

With the acquisition of Sittler, the Hurricanes have assigned Zac Robidoux to the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Robidoux appeared in 19 games this season with a 4.48 GAA and .881 save percentage.

The Hurricanes acquired the 1996-born Robidoux from Medicine Hat in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft as well as a conditional 4th round pick in 2017.  Robidoux was the Tigers 6th round pick (124thoverall) in 2011 and he played with Portage last season posting a record of 17-9 with a 2.19 GAA and a .924 save percentage in 27 games.

The Hurricanes would like to thank Zac for all his hard work and we wish him well with the Terriers.

  1. Anholt's promise to have the team get bigger and younger certainly seems to be heading on that path. Of the d-men only 2 are just under 6ft and the average age of this team (if my math is right) is 17.8yrs.
Canes only have one 95' Watson who could return as captain next season as a 20yr old. Jones and Walters still are tradable as OA with only one playoff contender having an OA spot open. Kelowna. Jones likely would be the best bet to move as he has pretty good numbers (on an offensively challenged team) a very good shot and good size.
Trading deadline closes Saturday. Wondering if there will be any last minute deals.

Dealing for Sittler looks like a good move to settle the goaltending positions.
