WHL Pre-Season: Hurricanes Beat Tigers 3-2

The Lethbridge Hurricanes beat the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-2 Wednesday night at the ENMAX Centre.

Gavin Broadhead opened the scoring for Medicine Hat just over 4 minutes into the game. Shortly after, Reid Duke tied things up for Lethbridge. The Tigers have the edge in shots 13-8 after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Tigers grabbed the lead again 20 seconds into the period on a goal by Boston Leier. That gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. A few minutes later Lethbridge tied the game at 2-2 on a Spencer Galbraith point shot. Lethbridge took its first lead of the night on goal from Jamal Watson. That made it 3-2 Hurricanes. The shots after 40 minutes favoured the Tigers 27-24.

There was no scoring in the third period as the Canes held on for a 3-2 victory. The Tigers outshot Lethbridge 34-32. The Hurricanes Pre-Season record improves to 2-2.

The Hurricanes starters in this one included: Ty Rimmer in goal, Joel Topping and Spencer Galbraith on defence and up front Jay Merkley, Craig Leverton, and Michael Sofillas.

Scratches for Lethbridge: Harrison Harper, Kolten Olynek, Christopher Tai, Graham Hood, Connor Sutton , and Lenny Hackman.

The Hurricanes will close out the pre-season on the weekend with games against Kootenay Friday and Calgary Saturday. Both games are in the Crowsnest Pass.

A reminder the Hurricanes This Week radio show is back on CJOC on Monday September 17th at our new time of 7:00pm (MDT). It's the Media Roundtable with Paul Kingsmith from Global TV, Dylan Purcell from the Lethbridge Herald along with myself and Fred Jack. Should be fun!!

Thanks,
Pat

  5. Good game for the team. Rimmer looks good and will definetly win some games for the Canes this year. Why is Kovaks still here, in my opinion he is not good enough to play here. Here is an idea for the back up goalie and it is Johnny Hogue. He is a local kid and as good or better than Kovaks and may even get some of his family and freinds to come to some games. As for Johnson he hurt his roght arm really early in the game reaching for a puck. The way he came off the ice it looked like the muscle under his arm. AJ
