WHL Pre-Season: Kootenay ICE 5 Lethbridge 4

COLEMAN, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes took on the Kootenay ICE in their second-last game of the WHL pre-season.

The game was played in the Crowsnest Pass as will Saturday's games versus the Calgary Hitmen.

Kootenay opened the scoring on a goal by Doug Morris less than 4 minutes into the game.  Lethbridge evened things up on the power play thanks to a Brady Ramsay goal.  That made it a 1-1 score.  In the final minute of the period, the Canes would grab a 2-1 lead with Ramsay's second goal of the night, but before the buzzer would sound, the ICE found the equalizer courtsey of Eric Benoit.  That put the score at 2-2 after 20 minutes of play.  The Hurricanes out shot the ICE 11-9.

In the second, the Hurricanes jumped into a 3-2 lead early when Tyler Wong scored, giving the Canes their second lead of the game.  Kootenay would fight back to tie it again on a goal from Sam Reinhart.  That would be it for Tai in the Canes goal as he allowed 3 goals on 12 shots.  Tanner Kovacs would take over for the rest of the game. The ICE would grab a 4-3 lead when Colin Shirley fired a shot by Kovacs, but with seconds left on the clock, Reid Duke tied the game for Lethbridge at 4-4.  The shots favour Lethbridge 28-17.

In the 3rd, the ICE regained a one goal lead when Sam Reinhart notched his 2nd goal of the night, giving Kootenay a 5-4 lead. That would hold up as the ICE would win 5-4. Lethbridge outshot Kootenay 37-32.

Lethbridge went into the game with a 2-2 record in the pre-season, while the ICE are 0-3.

The Hurricanes starters in this one were Christopher Tai in goal, Spencer Galbraith and Joel Topping on defence and up front the line of Axel Blomqvist, Russ Maxwell, and Jay Merkley.

The Canes scratches in this game included Graham Hood, Ty Rimmer, Dan Johnston, Albin Blomqvist, and Craig Leverton.

Thanks,
Pat
