Lethbridge's Kris Versteeg Traded to Maple Leafs

TORONTO -- The Chicago Blackhawks are sending forward Kris Versteeg to Toronto in a five-player deal.

He had 44 points in 79 regular-season games last season. Versteeg added 14 points in the post-season for the Stanley Cup champions.

The Maple Leafs give up forward Viktor Stalberg, Chris DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis in the deal.

Toronto also gets the rights to left-winger Bill Sweatt.

(Story from TSN.ca)

By the way, Versteeg will have the Stanley Cup in Lethbridge this Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 at Murray Chevrolet on Mayor Magrath Drive. I'll be there on location too for those three hours, broadcasting LIVE on CJOC. Versteeg will not be signing autographs, but fans will be able to get their picture taken with him and the Stanley Cup. Donations will be accepted and all proceeds raised will go to KidSport Lethbridge and Lethbridge Minor Hockey. Versteeg will match the total donations raised to both organizations.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. Kris Versteeg going to the Leafs was likely the last place he figured he would be traded to.Vancouver and Florida were two of the teams interested in the fiesty forward.
Kris will certainly fit the Burke "character" as Kris can be a bit of a pest, but who can score.
He will be disappointed to leave Chicago a city that has had a rebirth of hockey enthusiasm. Now he goes to the pressure cooker/ center of the universe they call Toronto.

  2. I haven't cheered for the Leafs since the days of Mike Palmateer and Darryl Sittler. In fact I`ve cheered against them pretty much regardless of opponent thanks mostly to CBC`s Saturday `Toronto Night in Canada.`

Solely because of Kris, I will now make a concerted effort not to resent the Leafs for being the Leafs. It will be difficult, though, to cheer for a team with guys like Phaneuf and Burke around. The only addition that would make it IMPOSSIBLE to cheer for the Leafs would be Tortorella as the coach.

Welcome back to Canada and to Lethbridge, Kris. - Richie
