Canes' Beat Tigers...Next Up PG

Well, I must say it was quite the interesting game Wednesday night at the Enmax Centre. If anyone was wondering if the Hurricanes/Tigers rivalry would ever heat up again, consider that game as the answer!

I thought it was a very entertaining game which saw goals her,e there, and everywhere. In fact the two teams scored 12 times between them, 5 of which were notched with the man advantage. This was also the first time this year the Hurricanes beat the Tigers outright in regulation time. There were 6 lead changes in that game and it was literally back and forth all night long. Medicine Hat would score, Lethbridge would reply and that carried on 4 times, until Lethbridge finally took a 5-4 lead, the Tigers this time would even the score, but the Canes' would get two more after that, including an empty netter by Kyle Beach to win it 7-5. After Beach's goal, that's when the rough stuff started with numerous penalties being assessed near the end of the game, some of those game misconducts. It most definately wasn't the finish many were expecting, but it was surely entertaining for the fans.

Despite the wild final minute, I thought the Canes' showed a lot of energy and fight Wednesday. They played well, especially in the 2nd and 3rd periods and didn't back down. I also liked the play of Dwight King who was the game's first star. He scored twice to lead the way offensively for the Hurricanes and at the end of the game came into help fellow Hurricane Colton Sceviour who was in trouble in a fight with Tigers Defenceman Matt McCue. Whether there'll be any extra discipline from the Western Hockey League regarding what took place in the final minute of that game still isn't know at this time. It was obvious though that King felt enough was enough and took it apon himself to come to the aid of Sceviour who was clearly banged up after the altercation with McCue. Whether you agree with King stepping in or not, I think something had to be done. Overall, the Hurricanes coaching staff has to be happy with the win and the effort Wednesday. No doubt extra special when you beat your biggest rival too! For Lethbridge though it's another two points and they will try and build on that tomorrow when they host Prince George.

Lethbridge now has points in it's last 6 games, in fact 10 out of a possible 12 points overall. They needed that win last night in regulation to continue their push for the top 4 in the conference. The Hurricanes would like to continue their decent play as of late with another victory tonight over PG. This will be the second and last meeting of the year between these two hockey clubs. The Canes' won the previous meeting back in mid-October at the Enmax Centre. Since then, the Cougars have changed coaches and are coming off a win in Edmonton this past Wednesday.

One other thing of note is the Hurricanes power play as of late. Special teams has been a real plus for the Canes' in the past couple of weeks and is a real big reason for the Hurricanes recent resurgence in the Eastern Conference. Lethbridge will play Saturday in Red Deer.

Game time Friday night is 7pm. The pre-game show on CJOC at 6:30.
