The Lethbridge Hurricanes will host rival Medicine Hat tonight at the Enmax Centre.
This will be the 6th meeting between the two clubs, which will hook up twice more in back-to-back games in one month from now. The Hurricanes are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to Saskatoon in their last game this past Saturday, while the Tigers pulled out a 6-5 shootout win versus Chilliwack last night in the Hat. The Canes' enter play tonight with a record of 23-21-2-2, good enough for 6th place in the Eastern Conference. The Tigers are 8 points ahead of Lethbridge and sit in 4th place in the conference with a record of 26-16-3-3. If the Canes' want to set their sights on that 4th spot, beating the Tigers not only tonight but in the remaining 3 games they play them will be key to reaching that goal. Medicine Hat is 5 and 5 in their past 10 games, while the Hurricanes are 3-5-2-0. The Canes' have also managed 8 out of a possible 10 points in their past 5 games.
The Hurricanes are still on "Sbisa Watch". With all the rumours circling around lately about Luca Sbisa's possible return to Lethbridge from the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers one has to wonder if it's not on the back of the minds of the players, coaches, and management. I know the fans are sure talking about it lately, given the number of calls and emails we've received on our post-game shows in the last while. I know there's nothing more Canes' fans would love to see right now than to have the big d-man back in a Hurricanes uniform. I guess time will tell and we'll likely find out about that sooner rather than later as the Flyers will have to make a decision fairly soon regarding that team's salary cap issues. The thing for Lethbridge is, the team has to continue playing as if he's not coming back. This whole Sbisa thing can't become a distraction for the rest of the team, although lately it may be kind of hard not to talk about it!
This game tonight will be the first of 3 in 4 days for Lethbridge. The Canes' will host Prince George on Friday and then it's off to Red Deer to take on the Rebels Saturday. Next week it's another round of 3 games in 4 days for the Hurricanes with games against Regina, Calgary, and again in Red Deer.
The Hurricanes are getting close to getting Carter Bancks (head) and Zach Boychuk (ankle) back into the line-up. They've missed the Canes' past few games with injury. It'll likely be a day to day thing with those two players. Touch wood and cross fingers......this has been the healthiest the Hurricanes have been in quite some time.
Tonight's game is a 7pm start from the Enmax Centre. The pre-game show on CJOC at 6:30.
