Hurricanes This Week

The struggles continue for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Canes are through the quarter-way point in the this WHL season. They sit with a record of 3-15-0-1 and just 7 points. Compare that to the same 19 game period last year and the numbers are drastically different. At this time in the 2010-2011 campaign, the Canes were 10-6-0-3 for 23 points. The team is coming off back-to-back losses in Saskatchewan this past weekend, dropping a 5-2 decision in Prince Albert and losing 7-3 in Saskatoon.

Lethbridge continues to battle injuries and the flu. Daniel Johnston is expected back this week after missing the past few weeks with injury. Damien Ketlo returned to the line-up Saturday in Saskatoon, but lasted just over a period between the pipes, before being pulled in favour Liam Liston. The Hurricanes are hoping Albin Blomqvist will be ready to go this week after being his hard with the flu last week. Adam Henry remains out as well with an upper body injury.

The Hurricanes have just victory in their last 16 hockey games. That came last week when they beat Everett 4-3 in a shoot out to end what was then a 13 game losing skid. The Hurricanes have three games this week. One Wednesday (Nov. 9) they play host to Seattle. That will be military appreciation night at the ENMAX Centre. On Saturday (Nov 12), Derek Ryckman makes his return to Lethbridge when the Hurricanes host the Tri-City Americans. Then Sunday (Nov. 13), it's off to Calgary for an afternoon tilt at the Saddledome with the Hitmen. After that, the schedule for the rest of the month for the Hurricanes gets real tough, with three games each against Edmonton and Red Deer and one game versus Medicine Hat.

Our weekly Hurricanes radio show is back on the air tonight at 6:00 pm (MST). Fred and I will be back LIVE at Average Joe's Sports Bar on 6th Street South. Brody Sutter will join us by phone in the first segment of the program and we will also chat with Brad Curle, the radio voice of the Calgary Hitmen. Lots to discuss over the course of the hour.

  1. I hope they put Ketlo right back in. It was a long time to be off and at least two of those goals were out of his control. With the last one Maxwell was pushed in behind him and fell preventing Ketlo from moving. I think he and Liston could be a very good tandem.

  2. i love the way fred says it the way it is, he has an honest way about him and seem to know a ton about the game.. again, thank for getting the show up and running as quick as you and your staff does pat, you both do a great job
and are fun to listen to.

  3. Just an observation

Liston has a better goals against and save % with us than he had with Brandon this year. Anderson as well had a better goals against and save % with us this year. Coach Chris must be doing something good with the goalies. Now we just need to limit the shots to get some more wins.

  4. I think he and Liston could be a very good tandem.
