Last night though was pretty fun. The entire team took in a Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. Seattle lost 8-1 to Oakland, but the experience of a Major League Baseball game was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed it. The picture on the left pretty much tells the story. For many of the players, myself included it was our first M.L.B. game. What a great ballpark too. I've been told by a few friends that Safeco Field is one of the best ballparks in the Majors. After being there, I can see why!
The Canes' are 2-0 while Seattle is 1-2 to start the season. The Thunderbirds only win in their first three games came against Portland last weekend. This is a battle of two teams who really struggled last season. The T-Birds bettered the Hurricanes record in 2009-2010 by just a point or two. That helped Lethbridge get the third overall pick in this past season's WHL Bantam draft. Both hockey clubs are putting last season behind and are focusing on what's going on right now. The Thunderbirds beat the Hurricanes in pre-season action in Tri-City a couple of weeks ago and also won the only other meeting between the teams last season, 1-0 in Lethbridge.
Lethbridge enters this game tonight with five players on the injured list. One of those is Austin Fyten, the Canes' leading scorer. Whether he plays at all this weekend remains to be seen. He leads the team with four goals and one assist in two games. I would expect both goalies will get starts this weekend for the Hurricanes. Both Brandon Anderson and Dylan Tait had great opening games last weekend in those wins over Calgary and Medicine Hat. The challenge for Rich Preston's crew this weekend will be getting off to better starts. The Canes' had issues right out of the gate in both games last weekend and really never found their legs until mid-way through. Getting off to a more energized start will be key for Lethbridge this weekend.
The pre-game show on 94.1, CJOC starts at 8:00 (MDT). The puck drops at 8:30.
Fill the Food Bank
I received an email yesterday from a good friend of mine at SHAW Cable in Lethbridge. She asked if I would put the word out about an initiative that they've teamed up with Hurricanes on. SHAW and the Hurricanes want you to help Fill the Food Bank. SHAW will be using Hurricanes home games as one of several drop off locations as well as the local SHAW office on 3rd avenue south. The goal is to get one million pounds of food and locally, all food donations will be going to both the Lethbridge and Interfaith Food Banks. All benefits of this campaign go to the food banks. SHAW Cable staff will be on location at the start of each Hurricanes home game until until November 15th. All the food donated will then be taken to the food bank to be weighed. Whatever that weight is, SHAW and Campbell`s Canada will triple it. So please help out a good cause. With Christmas just around the corner, the food banks could use your support in helping those who are less fortunate in our community.
Thanks,
Pat
