It has been a long time since the Hurricanes last defeated Vancouver, whether it be in Lethbridge or on the B.C. Lower Mainland. The last time the Hurricanes managed a victory over the Giants was in December of 2004. To say six seasons without a win against an opposing team is an understatement to say the least. The Canes' are due!
The Hurricanes come into action tonight with a record of 5-4-0-3 while Giants are 8-5-1-1. That's good enough for second place in WHL's Western Conference. Vancouver has the two top scorers in the league right now. Craig Cunningham and Brendan Gallagher have 31 and 26 points respectively and have played all 15 games for the Giants this season. The Hurricanes will have to key in on those two tonight if they want any shot at beating this Vancouver team.
As for injuries, Austin Fyten and Brody Sutter are the only two players still on the injured list at the moment. Assistant Coach Chris Chisamore told CJOC's Esther Madziya this week that Sutter was scheduled to visit the doctor on Tuesday. (Sutter was cleared to start practicing.) He's missed all 12 games this season with a shoulder injury. As for Fyten, it appears he's getting closer. Chisamore mentioned that Fyten has indicated his foot is feeling much better and he's chomping at the bit to get back playing again. Fyten has missed the Hurricanes passed six games with a fractured foot. He's been in a cast for the last two weeks. Chisamore said both Sutter and Fyten are anxious to get back to playing hockey, especially after how well things went for the Hurricanes on their recent Saskatchewan road trip.
Game time tonight from the ENMAX Centre is 7:00 (MDT). The pre-game show on CJOC at 6:30.
Thanks,
Pat
