ENMAX Centre Ready For Hurricanes Opener

The ENMAX Centre is ready to open it's doors for the first time in nearly 8 months.

Lethbridge media was given a tour of the half-renovated facility on Monday. Project Manager Reg Areshenko says everything is moving ahead smoothly. He said at the half-way point, they've met all the major milestones for scope and scheduling and everything is very much on track in terms of the 33.4 million dollar budget.

Fan will notice a big difference went the ENMAX re-opens on Friday to play host to the Hurricanes home opener against Prince George. There are new entrances at the northwest corner of the building, new concessions pushed farther back so line-ups won't extend onto the concourse. There are new bathrooms and a new media box which is being constructed on the east side of the building across from where we currently are. Things are a lot more wide open too. That you will certainly notice. Downstairs, there are new dressing rooms for the visiting WHL teams and construction on the Hurricanes new dressing room is well underway, but won't be ready until this time next year.

ENMAX Centre Operations Manager Len Overbeeke said they've been working closely with the general contractor to make sure everything is on time. He said his staff has been working hand-in-hand each day and each minute with Ward Brothers Construction to make sure things are on time.

After the Hurricanes arrived back Monday morning from their U.S. road trip, they unloaded back at the ENMAX Centre. It's the first time back in the building for the coaches, staff, and players since the season ended last March. For the new players, it's the first time in the rink period! ENMAX Centre G.M. Kim Gallucci told local media there aren't as many rooms available to teams as they'd like because the building is still under construction , but he's happy the Hurricanes can finally move back into their own facility again.

The Hurricanes play their next four games at home over the next two weeks. This weekend P.G. and Kootenay pay visits while next weekend it'll be Regina and Saskatoon.

Thanks,
Pat
