Skinner Named WHL Goalie of the Week

The Western Hockey League announced Monday that Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2017.


An 18 year old product of Edmonton, Skinner went 2-0-0-0 this past week with a 0.99 goals-against average, .970 save percentage and one shutout. On Wednesday, February 1, Skinner returned to the Hurricanes from the 2017 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game to make 34 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at Red Deer and was named second star for his performance. Saturday, February 4, saw Skinner shine once again as he turned away all 31 shots he faced in a 3-0 win versus Moose Jaw, earning first star honours.

Through 46 appearances in this his third full WHL season, Skinner is 26-13-3-2 with a 3.22 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and two shutouts. 

His 26 wins are tied for third among all WHL goaltenders and his two shutouts are tied for fourth among all WHL goaltenders. - WHL Release

    (CONGRATS to Skinner. He definitely kept the Canes close at the beginning of this season while his revolving-door team learned to play some defence together... which, after handing MJ only their second shut-out of the season, one could argue that they are learning quite nicely!

    Really nice feather for well deserving Skinner. Congrats to ALL the players, team leaders, coaches & support staff for ALL their efforts in making this season a great one!
