Hot Hurricanes Beat Edmonton

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are red hot right now and that's something no one has been able to say for almost seven seasons.

The Canes erased a 3-1 deficit, scoring three times in a span of less than two minutes in the third period to come back and beat the struggling Oil Kings 4-3 Saturday night at Rexall Place.

The Hurricanes scored the only goal of the opening period when Egor Babenko put home his 6th of the year to make it 1-0 Lethbridge through 20 minutes of play.

In the second, Edmonton took things over. Andrew Koep tied the game on a power play 3:40 into the period, beating Stuart Skinner. That evened the score at 1-1. Before the end of the period the Oil Kings scored a pair of quick goals to take a two goal lead. Chance Patterson scored at 17:45 and then less than a minute later Colten Kehler beat Skinner and just like that it was 3-1 Edmonton through two periods of play.

In the third though the Hurricanes turned the tide and in very short order. Egor Babenko notched his second of the night and 7th of the season on the power play to get the Canes to within one goal. Less than a minute later Lethbridge tied the game when Andrew Nielsen scored his 5th of the year and that was followed up 1:20 seconds later with yet another power play goal, this time from Arvin Atwal, his second of the season and just like that the Hurricanes found them selves in the driver's seat leading 4-3. Edmonton pushed to find the equalizer, but that would be it. The Canes would win it and skate away with their 6th win in a row.

The Canes finished the game 2/5 on the power play and Edmonton went 1/4.

The win improves the Hurricanes to 8-2 in the first 10 games this season. If any Hurricanes fans were on the fence about whether they want to buy tickets to support this club, especially because of the way things have been the last few season, I think this young group has answered that question loud and clear. I know many people who've told me they won't support this team until they get their act together. I believe we are seeing that right now. This team is fun to watch. They are energetic, fast, and skilled. It's a Hurricanes team we haven't seen in Lethbridge in several seasons. Damn it, it's great to see!

Thanks,
Pat
