Canes Beat Broncos in OT

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are red hot right now.

Riley Lindgren scored in overtime as the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat the visiting Swift Current Brnocos 3-2 Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.  It was their 5th win in a row.

The Broncos got things going in this game with the only goal of the first period. Jon Martin scored midway through the opening frame to give the visitors a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.

In the second, the Hurricanes evened the score. Giorgio Estephan put home his 3rd goal of the season at the 3:14 mark to tie the game at 1-1 through two periods of play.

In the third, Lethbridge took its first lead of the night. Egor Babenko scored his 5th of the year to put the Canes up 2-1.  It stayed that way until the final five minutes. The Hurricanes were on a power play when they gave up a shorthanded goal. Jake DeBrusk beat goalie Jayden Sittler to tie things at 2-2 sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame the Hurricanes came charging back. Riley Lindgren scored his 5th of the season 2:45 into OT and the Canes skated away with a huge 3-2 comeback win.  The victory improves the Hurricanes record to 7-2 on the season.

The Hurricanes out shot Swift Current 40-28 in the game. Lethbridge went 0/4 on the power play and the Broncos 0/2.

The Canes now hit the road for a long trip which starts Saturday (Oct. 24) in Edmonton. The Hurricanes will then swing through the BC Division where they will play Victoria, Vancouver, Kamloops, Kelowna, and Prince George. Their next home game isn't until November 6th when they host Seattle.

  1. With five straight wins and only two losses on the season it is hard to argue that the Hurricanes are not now a legitimate threat to the best teams in the league. This road trip will mean a lot and we wish them every success.

P.S. Holy $hit that 3-on-3 overtime is exciting to watch!

  2. Exciting, emotional fan rollercoaster!

What is with the 94.1 radio coverage, though? Barely made it into the arena on time for game start, and yet still no pre-game show?

Exciting game and OT. Canes Win, 9:33pm, hoping to hear some interviews and talk after the game, and it is back to the same pathetic music they play! Five minutes post game, and they are DONE already!! Brutal coverage!! They need to improve their pre and post game coverage!! Come on 94.1! Find the wagon, or move on so we can get some REAL coverage on board!!

    94.1 SUCKS!

  3. Before you go slamming our radio station you should be aware 94.1 doesn't broadcast the games anymore and we haven't broadcast game since 2013. A different station took over broadcasting over a season ago.

    1. Ha ha thats too funny Pat, he must not be a real Listener of the show if he didn't know this information already. Good on you Pat and keeping this Blog around for people with good opinions to have a place to speak. GREAT JOB PAT Keep it up.

  4. Sorry Pat, I'm a moron! I was actually thinking of your excellent coverage, pre- and post-game commentary when I typed, but unfortunately I missed on multiple levels. Sure would have increased my chances to hear game commentary if I checked the correct station! My bad, big time.

  5. No worries. Just wanted point that out. :)

  6. Still not the same kind of all inclusive broadcasts as provided by 94.1, which included the periodical running of the "media panel". You are missed Pat!

However, the Canes are on a roll and with another win in Edmonton (a comeback win) they head west for a real test of just what this club is about. 2-2-1 would be great.

Ps.....the 3 on 3 overtime was an absolute blast. End to end excitement with the added bonus of no shootout!
