Canes Win 7th Straight Game

Holy $#&$! Here come the Lethbridge Hurricanes!

Tyler Wong scored once in regulation then put home the game winner in a shoot out as the Hurricanes beat Victoria 4-3 Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes are playing some of their best hockey in a very very long time. In fact, this team hasn't played this well since the 2008-09 campaign, which by the way was the last time they made the playoffs.

Looking at the standings, the Hurricanes are two points out of the division lead and have games in hand. Yes, yes I know this is still early in the season, but this club and its fans have a lot to celebrate and be happy about. There have been years of criticism, plenty of it deserved as to how this team was playing and how the organization was run. Now it's time for the well-deserved positive recognition from top to bottom. Who knows how this season will ultimately turn out after game 72 is in the books, but for now there is plenty for the Hurricanes to be excited about. It's time to give credit where credit it due.

In the first period in Victoria the Hurricanes struck first. Brayden Burke scored in very short order, just 37 seconds into the game for his 4th of the season to make it 1-0 Lethbridge. The Royals battled back to tie the game a few minutes later. Dante Hannoun scored his first of two on the night to even the score at 1-1. Three minutes later the Hurricanes power play hit pay dirt when Tyler Wong scored his team-leading 13th of the season to make it 2-1 Canes, but before the end the period, Victoria would tie it up again, this time off the stick of Vladimir Bobylev. It was 2-2 after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Hurricanes regained the lead, Riley Lindgren scored his 6th of the year on yet another Lethbridge man advantage. That made it 3-2 for the visitors. It stayed the way until the final minute of the period when Vladimir Bobylev scored his second of the night to tie the score at 3-3 after two periods of play.

There was no scoring in the third period or the 3-on-3 overtime session, sending this game into a shoot out to settle the score. Tyler Wong scored the winner for Lethbridge and the Hurricanes went on for a 4-3 victory.

The win improves the Canes to 9-2 on the season. Victoria out shot Lethbridge though 36-26. The Canes went 2/3 on the power play and the Royals 0/3.

The Hurricanes continue this BC road trip Wednesday (Oct. 28) in Vancouver against a struggling Giants team. Vancouver has only 4 wins in 12 games this season and have also lost 3 games in a row. These can be the most dangerous games for teams on winning streaks. The Hurricanes can't take the Giants lightly, regardless of the record.

After this game, the Hurricanes will get Thursday off before playing Friday night in Kamloops.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. The game last night wasn't pretty and the team may have actually gotten a bit lucky but who the heck cares! They won and after all these bad years the players, organization and fans deserve this success period. While a loss will eventually come at some point let's hope that they are few and far between. We couldn't be happier. It is time for some of the lost fans and plenty of new ones to come back.
