Hurricanes Make More Roster Moves

The Lethbridge Hurricanes made a pair of roster moves Tuesday afternoon, claiming Florian Baltram off waivers and assigning Dexter Bricker to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
Baltram, a 5’11, 165 pound forward from Vienna, Austria was drafted 108th overallby Seattle in the 2014 CHL Import Draft. He played in 35 games with the Thunderbirds this season registering 1G, 4A and 20 penalty minutes. Prior to joining Seattle, he played with the Lower Austria Stars U20 team from 2011/12 to 2013/14. Last season the 1997-born forward was nearly a point a game player with the Stars tallying 41 points (17G, 24A) in 42 games.
The Hurricanes also assigned LW Dexter Bricker to the Melfort Mustangs in the SJHL. Bricker joined the Lethbridge Hurricanes during Training Camp in August and has played in every game this season. In 38 games, the 1995-born winger had 3G, 1A and 44 PIM’s.
The Lethbridge Hurricanes would like to thank Dexter for all his hard work both on and off the ice and we wish him the best as he returns to the Mustangs.

  1. Well everyone wanted movement, Maybe Anholt felt left out with the Rebels, Regina, PA,Kelowna making trades..

  2. Or, a chance to get younger, better and stronger.

  3. Oh the nay sayers are everywhere, no matter what move is made you guys are all up in arms. Twitter blew up yesterday about these moves. Let's be real here. Bricker was a fill in on a weak team, and Anholt sees the need to develop youth and give guys chances. Bricker was 19 and was not playing in this league next year, was a gap stop this year at best. Nice kid, worked hard, but cant play in this league. The Russian that was let go a few weeks ago also couldnt play, so bringing in Baltram on a "tryout" basis is a good move. Maybe he can show his offensive side here and become a steal, maybe he is no good and gets released at the end of the season in time for the Euro draft. Both moves are really good. We get younger, we dont get any worse and we may get a lot better if Baltram turns out to what many beleived he could be. Good moves Anholt. And Cooper for a big tough, d-man is a GREAT trade for this team.

  4. These moves should prime the canes for a serious playoff push!!!

  5. The Cooper trade is the key. Baltram is likely a stopgap, not a tryout. A better stopgap than Bricker, however. He'd have to be otherwordly — or dirt cheap — to stick next season, given this team's finances and high Euro draft picks.

On another note, I hope Bricker got a nice scholarship deal from the team. If he's not good enough to play in the league, it's because of the talent he was born with. His attitude and work ethic was very good and he was a very nice young guy to deal with.
