Canes Re-Assign Goalie Schamerhorn

The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced Friday they have re-assigned Goalie Jarrod Schamerhorn to the Merritt Centennials of the BC Hockey League who own his rights.

The Hurricanes acquired the Kelowna, BC native at the January 10th WHL trade deadline from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a 7th round Bantam pick in 2014.

Prior to joining the Hurricanes, the 6’2, 189 pound netminder had played in 10 games with the Winterhawks posting a 3-2-0-0 record with a 4.40 GAA and .875 save percentage. He was acquired to help the Hurricanes goaltending situation with Teagan Sacher sidelined with an injury. In four appearances with Lethbridge, Schamerhorn was 0-2 with a .822 save percentage.

  1. That's a big surprise, not! Let's see now, Schamerhorn is gone, Skinner called up for a few days, Hogue is the starter, and they "expect" Sacher will be back soon. So what happens if Sacher has a setback with his concussion regiment and Skinner has to go back to his team after a week or so here? That leaves Hogue on his own with no backup. Trades can't be made!

    1. The Canes probably have the right to call Schamerhorn up if that happens. Also Skinner is splitting time with the other goalie with SSAC so the Canes maybe can use him for up to 5 games.

  2. Dump'n Chase, I was thinking that exact same thing. Did they have to get their roster numbers down? This seems like a premature move.

  3. I like your tweet.

"Maybe it's time I retire! Every time @FreddieJack643 has filled in for me on play-by-play the @WHLHurricanes have won! "

If the Canes win tonight with Kingsmith calling the game from Red Deer, you may need to polish up your resume...hehe.

    1. (No offence to Pat whatsoever...) Really nice job by Fred J. doing a job he has not been trained to do. I couldn't do play by play for a single minute, so I am very impressed by a guy that has received no formal broadcasting training yet performed admirably on his own!

  4. A lot of players made substantial contributions in this one!

    And Sutter sulks again!

Olynek! Looks good on ya! Big PP goal in regulation and the only player to score in the shoot-out!!

Still a couple of players that are still getting regular shifts that aren't bringing much to the table for the team. One that stood out for me probably finished the game with dry hair and likely didn't need a shower.

Kingsmith.... Were you impersonating Gilbert Gottfried in parts of this game?
