The Lethbridge Hurricanes were dealt some bad news just prior to the start of their 2013 Training Camp when they learned they would be without defenceman Ryan Pilon to start Camp and very likely the start of the 2013-2014 season.
The 16-year old was diagnosed with mononucleosis and he’s expected to be out a few weeks. Pilon has returned to Lethbridge, but he will stay away from the rink to focus on his health and prepare for his return to the team.
Pilon recently returned from Slovakia where he was a member of the Gold Medal winning U-18 Team at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament where they beat the USA 4-0.
A key member of the defensive core last season, Pilon registered 28 points (5G, 23A) in 57 games and added 63 PIM’s in his rookie campaign with the ‘Canes. The Hurricanes wish Ryan, a speedy recovery and look forward to him returning to the lineup as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes also announced that Corbin Boes will not be participating in this year’s training camp. The veteran netminder, acquired in a trade at the 2013 Bantam Draft had corrective surgery on the right hand he had previously injured last year. It’s expected Boes will miss 2 to 3 weeks.
