Hurricanes Fire Head Coach & GM Rich Preston

Rich Preston is out as the Head Coach and GM of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Team President Brian McNaughton made the announcement at the ENMAX Centre Tuesday morning, saying the Board of Directors was not satisfied with the direction the team went in the last 30 games of the season and he believes making this change today is in the best interest of the franchise.

Under Preston, the Hurricanes missed the playoffs four years in a row with an overall record of 100-156-13-19 during that time.

In making the change, the team promoted Brad Robson to General Manager.  He's served as the Canes Assistant GM and Director of Player Personnel since 2007 and now has a chance to guide the Hurricanes ship out of some choppy waters.

New GM Bard Robson addressed media Tuesday at the ENMAX Centre

Robson says after speaking with his family, they fell it's the right decision.  He's currently in the process of selling his home in Calgary and relocating permanently to Lethbridge to concentrate on his new job.  He says he wants to build a "winning culture with the Lethbridge Hurricanes based on integrity and accountability".  He hopes to have a new Head Coach in place in the next few months. Current Assistant Coaches, Matt Kabayama and Chris Chisamore are under contract till May 31st, but nothing was said as to their future with the team.
