Yakubowski Named CHL Player of the Week

The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jaimen Yakubowski of the Lethbridge Hurricanes is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 9 after scoring six goals and three assists for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Yakubowski claims the award after receiving back-to-back WHL Player of the Week honours.  His week was highlighted by an impressive five-goal performance where he was named first star despite an 8-7 shootout loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night.  He also led the Hurricanes to a pair of victories with multi-point efforts including Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oil Kings where he picked up two assists as second star of the 6-2 win, and on Saturday against the Kootenay Ice where he scored once and added an assist as second star of the 6-1 win.

Yakubowski, an 18-year-old from Dalmeny, SK, is playing in his second full WHL season with the Hurricanes.  In 35 games so far this season, he ranks 29th in WHL scoring with 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points.

Also considered for the award this week was Phillip Danault of the Victoriaville Tigres who scored one goal and seven assists for eight points in two games, and defenceman Ryan O’Connor of the Barrie Colts who scored four goals and three assists for seven points in two games.

  2. WOW what a great honor, mind you he certainly deserves it. Should make for some interesting comments during the Sportsnet broadcast Wednesday night. Here's hoping that we get a big crowd for the Hurricanes and the tv audience.

    Way to go YAK ATTACK!

  4. I did read it, hence my reply. It leaves one to question ( thru implying) that the mentioned board member did not follow through.
    Enough said!

  5. No, you didn't RJ. Otherwise, you would have read that when I checked the Canes' website for the Board members, it had the OLD NAMES on the list. The reason I mentioned it was because it's a perfect example of how the Canes' website is not up to date unless the fans hassle the front office about it. Only then do things get updated.

(There wasn't any implication on my part.....I don't "imply", I say what I mean and mean what I say).
