Hurricanes Beat Medicine Hat 4-2 in Home Opener

LETHBRIDGE - A three goal second period lifted the Hurricanes to a 4-2 victory over Medicine Hat Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.

Just over a minute into this game, the Medicine Hat Tigers would open the scoring on their first shot of the night.  Boston Leier sent a night pass to Kale Kessey who buried it behind Ty Rimmer to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  Medicine Hat continued to get chances as the period moved along, but Rimmer was able to shut the door.  Medicine Hat out shot Lethbridge 10-3.  The Hurricanes really didn't have much in terms of opportunities in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second, the Hurricanes finally found a big spark with a power play goal. Brady Ramsay tipped a shot by Tigers goalie Marek Langhammer to even the score at 1-1.  Just past the midway point of the game, the Canes would take a 2-1 lead on a rather fluky goal. Jamal Watson moved in with Remi Laurencelle and his pass somehow banked in off the Tigers goalie and in, giving Lethbridge a 2-1 lead.  Soon after that, the Canes would get a penalty, but Lethbridge would get another goal, this one a shorthanded marker courtesy of Sam McKechnie.  That gave Lethbridge at 3-1 lead.   The Canes had a much better second period of play and narrowed the shots on goal as well.  The Tigers held the edge in shots at 22-16.

In the third, the Tigers made it a one goal game very early when Jayden Hart scored for Medicine Hat. That made it a 3-2 Lethbridge lead and set up an interesting finish for the rest of the period. The Tigers continued to press hard for the equalizer but Rimmer remained tall for the rest of the night.  Before the final buzzer sounded, Jaimen Yakubowski sealed it with an empty net goal to make it a 4-2.  Lethbridge was out shot 38-22.  Ty Rimmer was the game's first star in this one.  Brady Ramsay was the second star and the Tigers Curtis Valk was star number three.

  2. I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to realize that by getting Rimmer, Preston pulled off an amazing deal that will benefit the Canes for the entire season! Go Canes!!!
