Hurricanes This Week

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are 2-2 after four games of the 2011-2012 WHL season.

The Canes played their first two home games of the year over weekend, beating Calgary 6-5 and then dropping a 4-1 decision to the Regina Pats the next night. This week, the Hurricanes will play three games in five nights in Saskatchewan. They'll play the Warriors in Moose Jaw Wednesday, then it's off to Regina Friday and Swift Current Saturday.

The Canes will more than likely start trimming the roster soon as teams have to be down to 25 players by October 12th. Lethbridge is still carrying five overage players, but we should know more this week as to the severity of Austin Fyten's injury. Four players I thought really stood out for the Canes on the weekend include Jay Merkely, Macoy Erkamps, Brody Sutter, and Brady Ramsey. Friday was maybe Ramsey's best game in a Hurricanes uniform and he played a solid game Saturday too. This Saskatchewan road swing this week might be perfect timing for the Hurricanes, given some of the new faces in the line-up. I think a few days of team bonding should be a good thing this early in the season. I would expect to see veteran defencemen Landon Oslanski and Reid Jackson back in the line-up this week. They were both healthy scratches on Saturday against Regina.
