Hurricanes Lose 3-2 in Moose Jaw

MOOSE JAW, SK. - A shorthanded goal midway through the third period lifted the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Moose Jaw Warriors would draw first blood in this game. After a strong start in the first 8 minutes, Warriors defenceman Kendall McFaull sent a point shot through a crowd of players, beating Brandon Anderson high on the glove side to give Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later the Warriors would get another one. This time it would be Morgan Rielly tapping home the puck to put the home team ahead 2-0. That's the way the period would end. Moose Jaw ended up outshooting Lethbridge 13-7.

In the second, the Hurricanes would get on the scoreboard. Brady Ramsey took a pass from Sam McKechnie for his first goal of the season to cut the Moose Jaw lead to 2-1. Before the end of the period the Canes were get back to even terms. Brady Ramsey stole the puck off a defensive give-away and put it by Luke Siemens to tie the game at 2-2. The Warriors held the edge in shot on goal 25-16 after 40 minutes of play.

In the third, the Warriors woulf regain their one goal lead with a short-handed goal. The Hurricanes got caught on the power play when Sean Aschim took a feed from Brett Lyon on a two-on-one rush and beat Anderson to give Moose Jaw a big 3-2 lead. The Hurricanes would try to even the score again, but that would be as close as they would get in this one. The Warriors would hold on for a 3-2 victory. The Hurricanes were out shot 35-21. The loss drops the Hurricanes to one game below the .500 mark at 2-3. Lethbridge went 0/3 on the power pla and Moose Jaw 0/5.

It wasn't a poorly played game by Lethbridge. They found a way to erase a 2-0 deficit after the first period. They played with the Warriors all night. It was just the shorthanded goal that turned out to be the difference. Brady Ramsey continues to play well for the Hurricanes in the first 5 games of the season. The Hurricanes played without rookie forward Jay Merkely Wednesday. He wasn't feeling too well and sat the game out.

  1. Listened to the game on the radio. It sounded like on the second goal Ryckman was checked and gave up a free run and a goal. The Hurricanes seem to have the same problems undisciplined penalties and too few shots. Taking two penalties in the third Hood for slashing and Maxwell for cross checking with 30 sec left with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker is unacceptable. Preston has to do something about the penalties. How do you expect to win with 5 shots in the third period

  2. Sounded like from your call last night Pat that Mcllrath ran over Maxwell earlier.

Maxwell's crosscheck back at 30/40 seconds left with the goalie pulled may have been some personal frustration/payback at a poor time or the game?

  3. Sounds like this was a solid effort against a superior team. Too bad a couple third period failures like late penalties and a Shorty were their undoing.
Go get some revenge on the Pats boys.

  4. I watched the game on the internet this AM.Canes did not play bad in the first 10 min of game and second half...Just cannot seem to get the puck to the net...and too many turnovers in their own zone. Nice to see Ramsey get a couple of goals. He was the only impressive one up front...Johnston was a physical force on D and nearly scored in the third..I guess everyone in the league has figured out to go high on Anderson...2 of three goals over the glove again...need a better effort in Regina! 5. Glove hand....glove hand...glove hand. Ok, is it just me or is there a pattern there?

Still think signing players at 18 (unless it is a first round pick) is not a good thing.

He has his pro contract. So what does he have to play for now?

If he does not come up with at least a half dozen "stolen games" this season, playoffs will be out of the question.

  6. Pat,

Is there a place to find what the (cond.) on trades are? If Ketlo is released by us prior to the Oct 12th deadline was the (cond.) that we don't have to give up the 5th round pick?
