The Hurricanes loaded up the bus this morning at the ENMAX Centre and took off bright and early for our day-long trek to Chilliwack. The team will settle in there for a couple of nights and get set to play their first of three games in four nights on Wednesday when they take on the Bruins. I hope to post some photos from the road over the course of this week.
Despite, the 5-2 loss in Edmonton on Saturday, the last week-and-a-half turned out to be a successful one for Lethbridge as they picked up 8 out of possible 12 points and have made the race for the final playoff spot a real battle with Prince Albert. Both teams have nine games remaining in the regular season. Looking at the schedule for these clubs, it appears the Canes' have the tougher of the upcoming games. Lethbridge plays Chilliwack, Kamloops, and Kelowna on the road this week and next week they return home to play Moose Jaw and then next Friday it's off to Calgary, and back home Saturday to play Medicine Hat. The final week of the season the Hurricanes will take on the Oil Kings in Edmonton, and then it's a home-and-away set with the Kootenay ICE to close things out.
Prince Albert I think has the easier of the two schedules. They play the struggling Swift Current Bronocs three times in the next few weeks along with Regina, Kootenay, Edmonton, Calgary Moose Jaw, and Brandon all once. The Canes' will certainly need to pick up some points on this B.C. swing this week to help themselves out in the standings. Lethbridge has played some good hockey the last half of February. They will need to continue playing this desperate-style in the remaining nine games.
Congratulations to forward Cam Braes who notched his 30th goal of the WHL season the other night in Edmonton. He's first Hurricane to hit the 30 goal plateau since Carter Ashton did it the 2008-2009 season. He's been having an excellent year along with line mates, Austin Fyten and Brody Sutter.
HURRICANES THIS WEEK
The Hurricanes This Week radio show resumes Monday night on CJOC. I will be away in transit with the hockey club, but Fred Jack will be hosting the program. He'll be joibned in-studio by CTV's Darrell Rumold to go over the last few weeks for this team and a look-ahead to the final month of the season. On the show, Hurricanes Assistant Coach Chris Chisamore and Randy Merkley, the radio voice of the Chilliwack Bruins.
Thanks.
Pat

ReplyDeleteto your facebook and share it with everyone you know and become a fan of the Lethbridge Hurricanes!!! GO CANES GO!!
On Wednesday and Friday, the Canes play against the two teams in the league with more penalty minutes than themselves. Being that Wednesday's game in Chilliwack is scheduled to be on SHAW, it will be interesting to see how the presence of TV affects the players discipline (Canes were badly outshot but won in the Hat in their last TV game) - Richie
ReplyDeleteGood show last night! Really enjoyd the banter.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how management is putting so much importance on making the playoffs. It isn't that important for future success.
ReplyDeleteThe Hurricanes went to the league finals in 2008 after missing the dance in 2007.
The experience is not important at all!
As a hockey fan I just want more than three more home games this year.

GDC, You answered your question within your post. "Management is putting so much importance on making the playoffs" .... because ... their customers, (you, and other Cane fans) ... "want to watch more than the three remaining home games this year." (More gate revenue from playoff games = less business loss)
ReplyDeleteKeep driving safely, ACE! (Great photo, PAT)
a couple of posts back people were referring that something must be wrong with Reners that he doesn't play but when he does he scores
