Hurricanes This Week

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have moved to within two points of the 8th and final playoff spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference after going 2 and 2 last week.

The Hurricanes defeated Medicine Hat and Regina and lost in Moose Jaw and Brandon. With 16 victories to this point, the Canes' are now four wins back of equaling their entire win total of last season. Things don't get much easier this week for Lethbridge. For the second week in a row, the Hurricanes will play four games in five nights starting Tuesday when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Canes' will be looking for a bit of payback in this game after the Wheaties stormed back to beat the Hurricanes 6-4 in Brandon this past Friday. The Canes' will also wear their special jersey's on Tuesday night honouring the 1951 Lethbridge Maple Leafs. On Wednesday. Lethbridge will head north to Red Deer and then on the weekend it's back-to-back against the Kootenay ICE. That will conclude a very busy month of January for Lethbridge with 14 games on the schedule, the majority of those on the road. February will be kind of the reverse, with most of the Hurricanes 12 games next month taking place at home.

HURRICANES THIS WEEK

Our weekly Hurricanes radio program is back on the air Monday night on CJOC. Fred and I will be joined by Head Coach and G.M. Rich Preston in the first 20 minutes. A blast from the past in the second segment of the show. We will be playing back an interview CJOC reporter Bryan Jeannotte did 30 years ago regarding the 1951 Lethbridge Maple Leafs. Back in 1981, Bryan spoke with Bert Knibbs who was a member of the team which won the World Amateur Hockey Championship in Paris, France. Last week, he found that interview in his personal archives he did with Knibbs to honour the 30th anniversary of that team and we will play it for you on the talk show. Kind of fitting given the fact the Canes' will be recognizing the 60th anniversary of that great team on Tuesday. In the final segment, we'll be joined by Bruce Luebke, the radio voice of the Brandon Wheat Kings. The show starts at 6:00 pm (MST) on CJOC.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. Please ask Rich why Alex K, Sofilas etc have sat for so long now when they were the best players on the ice while we went on out best stretch of the season? If you don't have time to ask I understand as a 20 minute interview should only allow for 3-4questions to be asked.

  4. Is there no comment filter by the blogger or are there some that don't make it on here? How do people within the organization that are the subject of the written criticism feel about you allowing some of these comments through the screening process?
Do you get a cold shoulder from anyone over it, Pat?

  5. Yes, there are some posts that do not get allowed because of the content. I have never had a single person from the Hurricanes organization approach me about any comments on this blog, either my own or fans and no, I've been given the cold shoulder by anyone involved with the hockey team in my four years with the Hurricanes. Thanks for your concern.

  8. I read your blog daily Pat, and I have wriiten both positive and some negative comments, What I like is that you post them all unless they are totally out to lunch, these are peoples opinions, the Canes are an organization that charges for a product, and are subject to critique by their paying public, I have no problem criticizeing Rich or the other coaches as they are being paid, I do not not comment on the players other than stating if I feel they did not put forth a good effort, as they are kids and are trying, Rich is paid and should be accountable his peers are and if they dont produce they are let go he should be subject to the same level, and he has been here long enough that he can not keep blaming the past, produce or move up or on
