WHL Training Camps Open This Week

The 2010-11 Western Hockey League season is quickly approaching as many WHL Clubs officially open training camps this week.

Beginning Wednesday, August 25th, many Clubs welcome players for registration, while on-ice sessions for 13 Clubs begin on Thursday, August 26th. By the weekend, almost all WHL Clubs will be putting players through paces on the ice in preparation for the 2010-11 WHL regular season, which begins on Friday, September 24th.

The 2010 WHL pre-season begins on Wednesday, September 1st, with two games on the schedule including the Moose Jaw Warriors welcoming the Swift Current Broncos and the Prince Albert Raiders playing host to the Saskatoon Blades.

The 2010 WHL exhibition schedule again features three pre-season tournaments. The Everett Silvertips host their annual pre-season tournament on the first weekend of September that will include U.S. Division rivals Seattle, Spokane, Portland and Tri-City along with the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Edmonton Oil Kings will also host a pre-season tournament on the first weekend of September that will include the Medicine Hat Tigers, Prince George Cougars and Swift Current Broncos. The following weekend, the Tri-City Americans will host their annual pre-season tournament that will include Division foes Spokane, Everett, Seattle and Portland along with the Kootenay Ice and the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

  1. Nice to see we are in no rush to get to camp.

  2. Nice to see we only run one camp instead of wasting a bunch time with a rookie camp and dragging out the process of getting on with business

  3. There is no rookie camps because the canes have no money

  4. There is no rookie camp because that is the way Preston wanted to run it. Not a case of no money! Had he wanted a rookie camp the cost would have been built into the budget. Also if you knew the facts, you would know that the Hurricanes have a very big reserve fund! Enough of the negativity!

  5. And if you want to know. there has never been a rookie even before Preston came here. It is a waste of time for the coaches, parents and kids who have no shot at even trying to make the team. Rookie camps are run by organizations to make money as they charge the kids who really have no chance of making it and will not get an invite to the main camp a participation fee. Glad to see Lethbridge doesnt get caught up this.

  6. There actually used to be a rookie camp in Leth every season. For several years in a row in the '90s and early 2000s... I know this because my brother and I both took part.

  7. I attended a rookie camp years ago when Bartlett was the GM

  8. There is not a single rookie camp in the league who charges players...Junior A teams in Alberta do that, not WHL teams
