Warriors Blank Canes' 4-0

LETHBRIDGE - A solid first period was the difference as the Moose Jaw Warriors shut out the Hurricanes last night at the Enmax Centre.

A flat start for Lethbridge in this one. Moose Jaw jumped out of the gate with all the energy and managed to score just 36 seconds into the game when Dylan Hood fired a shot low on the glove side of Brandon Anderson. The Warriors kept it coming too. They would continue to pound shots on the Canes' goal. Not too long after that, the Warriors would go up 2-0 when Chad Suer potted one on the power play. That would be all the offence in the first 20 minutes, but Moose Jaw had a tonne of scoring chances as they heavily out shot the Hurricanes 18-7.

In the second, the Canes' came out much stronger and had some good chances to cut the lead in half, but the Warriors would get the next one on a good rush up ice. Quinten Howden finished off the play by putting a shot off the post and in to put the visitors ahead 3-0 and then about 10 minutes later Spencer Edwards snapped a hard shot past Brandon Anderson to give Moose Jaw a commanding 4-0 cushion. The Warriors held the edge in shots of goal after 40 minutes 27-14.

In the third, the Hurricanes came out very strong and fired 17 shots at Moose Jaw goalie Jeff Bosch, but to no avail. He would turn aside everything he faced on this night to blank the Canes' 4-0. when it was all said and done The Canes' were able to cut into the shots on goal department, but on this night they were unable to get a single puck passed Bosch. The final shots would favour Moose Jaw 35-31. The Warriors went 1/5 on the power play while the Hurricanes went 0/4. The three stars on this night would be a Moose Jaw sweep. Jason Bast was the game's 3rd star, Dylan Hood was the second, and with his WHL leading 6th shutout of the season Jeff Bosch was easily chosen as the game's first star.

Associate Coach Matt Kabayama said on our CJOC post game show last night that the Hurricanes were simply not prepared for last night's game and that after such a strong game against the Kootenay ICE it was a let down with the slow start in the opening period. He did give kudo though to Moose Jaw for the way they came out and played, especially in that opening period. Canes' forward Cam Braes left the game in the third period hunched over and headed off to the bench and to the dressing room. He did not return to the game after that.

The Hurricanes hit the road today for their final trip of the season. They play in Regina Friday and in Moose Jaw Saturday. Both games are 6pm (MT) start times from Saskatchewan. The Canes' will be looking to even the season series against the Pats and Linden Rowat will be looking for a victory against his old team in his last ever junior game at the Brandt Centre.
