G.M. Preston Busy....Hopes to Hire Another Coach

Rich Preston has only been on the job for about 3 weeks, but the new G.M. and Head Coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes has been a fairly busy guy.

I had a chance to speak with him on the phone Tuesday afternoon to get an idea on how things have been going since he took the job. Preston says, "It's been a hectic past couple of weeks, but I'm getting a lot of things done. I've been talking to all the players, hiring Brad Robson back who's a real good hockey man, and I'll be bringing on a new Assistant Coach which will be announced in the next little while."

Preston wouldn't say who that second associate coach is going to be. Whoever though gets brought on, it appears the Canes' will have 3 coaches behind the bench this year, Preston, Matt Kabayama, and the new assistant.

Preston says the biggest focus now is on training camp which starts up the last week of August. He says, "A lot of that has been done by Brad. We'll have a little over 60 kids coming in for camp and we're getting out letters this week to the kids to tell them about camp. We'll be over at Adams Ice Centre this year because of the construction going on at Enmax. The other thing is I watched some of our kids in the Alberta under 17 and under 16 elite programs and we had kids there the last couple weekends and that was good to see some of the listed kids with Brad. I was looking at some our Bantam draft picks this year and 8 of the 10 kids we've drafted were on under 16 elite programs in the province they're in so that's pretty good."

Have a great day,
Pat

  2. Will it be the other Rich? I'd rather see him on the bench than in the front office.

  3. I like what I am hearing too. He hopes to hire a another coach. Does this guy know what he is doing or what! Catching up on a team you have no clue about is not good work. It's an expectation.
