The Lethbridge Hurricanes notched their 3rd road win of the season on Saturday night with a 3-0 shutout victory in Red Deer. Colton Sceviour scored once and added two assists and Juha Metsola recorded his 3rd shutout of the year. The Hurricanes penalty killers were and had to be very good in that game. The Rebels were given 6 straight power plays including a 5 on 3 for a minute 41. That ultimately turned out to be the difference in the game. Special teams more times that not decide a hockey game and for the Canes', the PK got the job done in Red Deer. Overall it was a fairly solid performance by Lethbridge. There were a couple of close calls, but Metsola was again steady between the pipes for the Hurricanes who are now back to the .500 mark with a record of 12-12-0-1.
Lethbridge has now won 3 of it's past 4 games. The team has 11-games remaining before the Christmas break.....6 at home and 5 on the road. Next up for Lethbridge is Brandon on Friday at the Enmax Centre. Moose Jaw pays a visit on Sunday and then next week Edmonton is back in town December 3rd and on the 5th the Rebels are in Lethbridge to take on the Canes' on what will be Teddy Bear Toss night.
The next couple of weeks here will be important for this Hurricanes team. They have a chance to make up some ground on the rest of the Eastern Conference and get back into the race. Lethbridge still has a few games in hand on some teams and it'll be important for the hockey club to win those games in hand as well.
The ADT Canada/Russia Challenge will be held this Wednesday and Thursday in Prince Albert and Swift Current. Two Hurricanes, Zach Boychuk and Colton Sceviour will play for team WHL in those two games, something I'm sure both players are looking forward to. Boychuk today was named as one of the Assistant Captains for the WHL squad along with Tyler Ennis of Medicine Hat and Dana Tyrell of Prince George. Seattle's Thomas Hickey was announced as the Captain.
Tonight 'Hurricanes This Week' is back on the air on CJOC. Our guests include: Hurricanes Head Coach Michael Dyck, Canes' rookie forward Austin Fyten, and Bruce Luebke-- voice of the Brandon Wheat Kings. The show starts at 7.
