Canes' Select Russian in CHL Import Draft

The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Wednesday that they have selected forward Yegor Zudilov with the 48th overall pick in the 2017 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

Zudilov, 16, will celebrate his 17th birthday on September 10th, 2017. The 6’3”, 180-pound forward appeared in 35 games with the Avangard Omsk Under-17 team in the Russia Under-17 League in 2016-2017 collecting 65 points (31g 34a) along 18 penalty minutes. The Russian-born Zudilov registered 63 points (31g-32a) with 18 penalty minutes in the Russia Under-16 League in 2015-2016 with Avangard Omsk U-16 team.

Zudilov also appeared in one game in the MHL with Omskie Yastreby in 2016 2017 where he was held pointless.

The last time the Hurricanes took part in the CHL Import Draft they selected Egor Babenko (5th overall) and Igor Merezhko (65th overall) in the 2015 Import Draft. Babenko has appeared in 133 regular season games with the ‘Canes over the last two years collected 124 points (53g-71a) with 72 penalty minutes and a plus 33 rating. In two seasons, Merezhko has dressed in 128 games registering 31 points (2g-29a) with 149 penalty minutes and a plus-22 rating.


The Hurricanes elected to pass with the second pick, 108th overall.
