Some major changes at the top of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Brian McNaughton is no longer the hockey club's President and not on the new executive either.
Following the 29th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on September 30th, the new Hurricanes
Board of Directors held their first meeting last night to elect their new executive and
Committee Chairs.
The board elected Doug Paisley
President of the hockey club, following in the footsteps of Brian McNaughton.
The other board members are Michael Boh, Brent McDowell, Cory McLean, Roger
Simpson, Daryl Wilson, Glen Wright, Brian McNaughton, Tyler Brack, Rick Braden,
Dave Olson, Blair Sanderson, Pat Shimbashi, Reid Williams and Nick
Polychronopoulos. Herman Elfring and Herb Beswick continue to serve the hockey
club in the role as Governor and Legal Counsel respectively.
Other
business that was finalized was the selection of Board Committees and the
Executive for the Lethbridge Hurricanes Board of Directors for 2014-2015.
President Doug Paisley
Vice-President Reid
Williams
Secretary Dave Olson
Finance Chair Blair Sanderson

Let the first action of the new board be to fire Robson!!
ReplyDeleteGood!
ReplyDeleteRJS
(now get rid of the cheerleaders)
Are all these people over 60 again?
ReplyDeleteProbably one of the youngest boards in recent history.
DeleteGood move get McNaughton out as pres. now get rid of Robson, drake and Robsons son (head Scout) and we are heading in right direction
ReplyDeletenice to have realtors and accountants on board for the big sale. Agree with fire the robsons
ReplyDeleteIf the Canes can only afford to fire one person.....it has to be DB!

LOL, and you guys thought it was bad with McNaughton in charge. Get out the popcorn, this is going to be quite a show.
ReplyDeleteWatchthisimplosion
I don't personally know any of these 4 guys. Why do you say what you did? Can you tell me some info on any of these guys?
Deletecanesrock
What are the qualifications for this? Can anybody run? Or do you just have to be a little interested in hockey?
ReplyDeleteTo answer your questions.
Delete#1 No qualifications required.
#2 Yes.
#3 No interest in hockey is required at all.
Sad but true.

You have to be a Hurricane shareholder in order to run for a Board position.
DeleteYou have to be interested in Oldtimers hockey and be able to stomach Scotch!
ReplyDeleteYa, not seeing much change in the leadership department, its an old boys club at best, they get to golf on the Canes and they all love Scotch and cigars! There is no money and even if there was, no one in this group has the balls to make meaningful change...
ReplyDeleteJTJ
The only good hockey man in the organization is Maxwell..heres to hoping they offer him up to gm and head coach<>
ReplyDelete!4 members on the board/payroll why so many? Do these guys get a salary and why?
ReplyDeleteIn theory, the more board members you have the less influence one or two people can have over the goings on. Like I said, in theory.
Deletecanesrock
All Board members are volunteers, not paid.
DeleteDarren
I don't run because I KNOW I don't have the time or the knowledge necessary to turn this organization around. Those that have served this most recent term are much appreciated, but accolades are few after losing $1.5 million over the past 5 years.
DeleteDarren
Darren
Board members do not get paid. They are all volunteers.
ReplyDeleteI see they are just puppets! thx Pat.
DeleteI would like to congratulate all the board members....past and present. Congratulations for committing to an important community organization.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to read the type of commentary posted here. It is clear that by most of these comments, people have no idea what is required in terms of time, effort and commitment. It is easy to sit back and criticize. It is a lot harder to roll up your sleeves to be part of the solution. No organization is perfect, but please know that the Hurricanes is important to many people and many organizations in Southern Alberta. Feel good about the work you do, feel good about the organization and feel good about taking action while many others choose only to sit back, complain and fuel negative commentary.
Focus on those people, organizations and partners that are going to grow and strengthen the organization.
Good luck to the team, hockey ops and business teams, the Board and the community.
Finally a comment worth reading . Very well stated and long overdue. It is so easy to sit back, do nothing, do not have the will or capacity to help and just wait for an opportunity to slam those who volunteer their time and work hard to improve this organization . Instead of all these negative comments why not offer to help ?
DeleteGood luck lethbridge has been a sad sack commumity for years, they lost the broncos and the canes cant win..get rid of the community owned team and sell it to alumni like Seabrooke or Versteeg or someone with hockey in their blood who knows how to evolve and create a winning environment that none can deny!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good thought. The only problem is that you need owners with deep pockets who can afford to write off the loss every year until the ship is righted. If that is possible!! Raising the Titanic comes to mind. Feel sorry for some of the players.
ReplyDeleteIn the interview, Paisley says that none of the Board saw last year's debacle coming. The first bad move was allowing GM Robson to hire a coach after one phone interview and not following a proper interview process. Absolutely ridiculous the hiring of Coach Berehowsky was allowed to happen after one phone interview!
ReplyDeleteDarren
Darren, How do you know it was one phone interview? He has a very good reputation in the Hockey Community. The mistake Robsion made was hiring his Friend Lukowich and we all saw how well that went!!!!' Berehowsky has changed the culture here and this has not happened in YEARS. I talked to a player last week and he said the team has never been closer then it is now and that the coaches have been a great example for them. You can see they are turning a corner just by watching them compete every night. Good for you Coach keep up the hard work
ReplyDeleteThat's great that the team is close, but the fact remains that Berehowsky doesn't know how to coach at this level in this league. That much is obvious. In my opinion, the fact that Lukowich discovered the Hurricanes breaking several league rules and quit because of it points to the Board, GM and coaches not knowing the rules of the league. This is inexcusable. The Board is incompetent and thus, hire an incompetent GM who, in turn, hires an incompetent coach. See where this is going?
ReplyDeleteI'm happy the players are a close knit group, but that's not going to change the fact that they are an unskilled group and can't compete on a nightly basis with most of the other teams in the league. It's obvious to MOST of us, that Berehowsky is in WAY over his head and Maxwell can't make up for the lack of talent on the team. (Not blaming the players. Just saying the organization above the players is incompetent and that has led to lot of the mistakes and VERY poor decisions in the past 3 years).
Saw Poly hanging with terminated Brad Lucowich at the rink. Word is they are coaching minor hockey together. So if I understand we agreed to pay a bunch of money to make him m go away (presumably approved by the board), then we have a hockey ops board member hang with him. Is this not a conflict of interest. Did minor hockey or the hurricannes okay this? Why?
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, but as far as I know the Board and Minor Hockey were both asked about this and both parties gave their approval. Given Lukowich's suit was settled, it's longer considered a legal issue. Hope that helps.
