The Lethbridge Hurricanes and the City have reached a tentative operational agreement for the next 15 years.
The new deal is scheduled to come before City Council today (May 12) for ratification.
The City and the hockey club signed a four year deal ten years ago and agreed to maintain it through annual letters of extension.
Negotiations started in 2011 for a comprehensive 17 year agreement.
It covers the past two years and is scheduled to expire in July, 2029.
Financial terms would be reviewed every five years.
According to the request coming before City Council three principles guided the negotiations and led to a proposed agreement...first...fairness to both parties...second...the Hurricanes franchise stays in Lethbridge...and third...the agreement remains cost neutral to the City.
