The Bantam Draft Lottery will involve the six non-playoff teams from the 2013-14 season, and will determine the order of the first six picks in the 1st round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
The Lottery will use a total of 21 balls and the allotment of balls will be as follows:
Lethbridge Hurricanes - Six balls
Kamloops Blazers - Five balls
Saskatoon Blades - Four balls
Moose Jaw Warriors - Three balls
Prince George Cougars - Two balls
*Prince Albert / Red Deer - One ball
(*Sixth lottery Club will be determined following Tuesday’s tiebreaker game)
A team can move up a maximum of two positions in the Bantam Draft. Only one ball is drawn in the Lottery.
The following are the scenarios that can take place following the Lottery selection:
1). If Lethbridge wins the lottery, Lethbridge will have the first pick, Kamloops will have the second pick, Saskatoon will have the third pick, Moose Jaw will have the fourth pick, Prince George will have the fifth pick and Prince Albert / Red Deer will have the sixth pick in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
2). If Kamloops wins the lottery, Kamloops will have the first pick, Lethbridge will have the second pick, Saskatoon will have the third pick, Moose Jaw will have the fourth pick, Prince George will have the fifth pick and Prince Albert / Red Deer will have the sixth pick in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
3). If Saskatoon wins the lottery, Saskatoon will have the first pick, Lethbridge will have the second pick, Kamloops will have the third pick, Moose Jaw will have the fourth pick, Prince George will have the fifth pick and Prince Albert / Red Deer will have the sixth pick in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
4). If Moose Jaw wins the lottery, Lethbridge will have the first pick, Moose Jaw will have the second pick, Kamloops will have the third pick, Saskatoon will have the fourth pick, Prince George will have the fifth pick and Prince Albert / Red Deer will have the sixth pick in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
5). If Prince George wins the lottery, Lethbridge will have the first pick, Kamloops will have the second pick, Prince George will have the third pick, Saskatoon will have the fourth pick, Moose Jaw will have the fifth pick and Prince Albert / Red Deer will have the sixth pick in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
6). If Prince Albert / Red Deer wins the lottery, Lethbridge will have the first pick, Kamloops will have the second pick, Saskatoon will have the third pick, Prince Albert / Red Deer will have the fourth pick, Moose Jaw will have the fifth pick and Prince George will have the sixth pick in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft.
The Lottery only applies to the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft. For each round following the first round, WHL teams shall draft in the inverse order of final regular season standings with Lethbridge receiving the first pick.
Summary: 12 Balls (57.1%) say that Robson trades away the first overall pick, 9 balls (42.9%) say he trades away the second overall pick. The only question is.... who gets to take candy from the baby THIS year? I bet the phone in Robson's office never stops ringing.

I think the chances of trading the first or second overall pick are very high or should be. The chances a number 1 or 2 overall pick not signing with Lethbridge with the existing coaching staff and GM must be greater than 50%. If a player went that high they would have an agent who would be advising the player to refuse to go Lethbridge with the alternative to play Junior A and go NCAA unless traded. It would be insane to sign with Lethbridge given the current situation. Any first or second potential pick should talking with Lukowich right now. AJ
ReplyDeleteAgreed, now that the structure of the team and next year's coaching staff has been identified through tweets made by Purcell and Kingsmith, that has to signal to all that life is good in CaneLand and that there will be no changes to staff or program. (scary) If the GM can find trading partners, he better trade all of his draft picks this year because no new prospect will ever sign up for this, that's a guarantee! It is also very likely that any player that gets traded here will never report. All of these players would be much better off to play in the Jr A, at least they would get some development and have so fun! Cannot believe that fans and share holds are actually willing to be abused again and again and again...

All of the draft/trade/no report situations are a possibility. But there is one thing that would signal stability to any drafted/traded players is the sale of this franchise. I firmly believe that the franchise will be sold, sooner rather than later. No I do not have "insider information" like Fred Jack. One that would prompt him to say there is going to be a "Big Announcement" before May 1st. I am going on my "gut feeling and wishful thinking".
ReplyDeleteWhy? The WHL board of governors have had it with this franchise. It has become a black eye for the league for the past 5 seasons. This season is the final straw. This franchise is in debt. Just how much? Well according to the "Owner" it is a bit over $100,000. His words at the shareholder meeting. But there are businesses that have been partially paid or not at all for services/products provided to the club.
Some of those same businesses have indicated that they will not be advertising next season.(This is first hand knowledge). Season ticket holders (not all) are holding back buying season tickets because of the horrible performance of the team, the lack of transparency by the "owner". The franchise has not secured the $200,000 from the city that they keep pinning their hopes on. Rumors abound that at times payroll was late. All of this screams of no money, no loans, and therefore more gloom and doom for 2014-15. Brad Robson said all his coaches will be back next year. He also said that his future is up to whatever happens. (kind of paraphrasing) Which leads me to believe that he too is wondering what will transpire in the off season. The players have been told "they" will be here next season. Does that include coaches/mgr? The league is closely monitoring the team......once a week according to the business manager. One could argue, that the league is keeping a very close eye on the operation up until they pull the plug.
Winnipeg gets the Canes? Not going to happen as they are busy with relocating their AHL team to Thunder Bay. Thus Kootenay can't move into Lethbridge. So that leaves only three possibilities. Status quo.....not going to be allowed by the league. Sale by the shareholders is a process that will take too long (30 days notice for any actions and the league still decides on ownership/price. Which leaves only one answer. The league forces the sale sooner than May 1st in order to: stabilize the franchise for the players, the season ticket holders, fans, and most importantly for the league. Of course there is the argument that private ownership does not guarantee success. But in most of the franchises it does.
This franchise is a mess. The only way to handle a mess, is completely clean it up.
