The Lethbridge Hurricanes went 1-1 on the road this past weekend.
The Canes managed a 5-1 victory in Red Deer Friday, but fell 5-2 in Edmonton Saturday night. The win in Red Deer was just the Hurricanes second victory on the road this season. They played a solid game in Red Deer, one of their best games of the season so far. The next night, the Canes went into the 3rd period in Edmonton tied at 1-1, but three goals by the Oil Kings turned that game upside down. Lethbridge played that game without the services of defencemen Dan Johnston and Macoy Erkamps, who are both nursing injuries. Both are expected back soon.
The Hurricanes play three games this week as well. They're back in action Tuesday night at home when they play host to the Red Deer Rebels again. The Canes have two wins against the Rebels in the past week and a half. On Wednesday, it's off to Medicine Hat to take on one of the highest scoring teams in the WHL and then Saturday, the Canes are back home to host the Saskatoon Blades for their first game on the December schedule.
Lethbridge still remains far out of the playoff picture with a record of 6-20-0-1 on the season. This team is slowly getting better the past few weeks, now that they have a mostly healthy line-up. The most important thing now is consistency. Playing a solid 60 minutes from start to finish and not a good shift or good period here and there. The young players on this team continue to get a lot of ice time and that should benefit them in the long run.
Forwards Nick Buonassisi, Brody Sutter, and Cam Braes have had the hot hands lately on offence. Sutter leads the Hurricanes with 11 goals and Braes leads the Hurricanes in overall points with 22. Buonassisi has 12 points in 15 games since joining the Hurricanes just over a month ago.
