Pre-Season: Hurricanes 9 & Kootenay 3 Final

COLEMAN - The Lethbridge Hurricanes found the back of the net often and also found their first pre-season win, hammering the Kootenay ICE 9-3 Friday night in the Crowsnest Pass.

The Canes jumped out to a huge 4-1 lead on the Kootenay ICE after one period of play. Lethbridge getting goals from Russ Maxwell, Jay Merkley, Jamal Watson, and Harrision Harper in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Hurricanes also hold the edge in shots on goal 16-10. Philip scored the lone goal for the ICE. The Hurricanes were up 4-0 until the late Kootenay goal. No question the Hurricanes best period of hockey during the pre-season so far.

In the second, each team would exchange goals. The ICE would cut the Lethbridge lead to 4-2 with a goal from Pearce, but the Hurricanes would get that one back when Captain Cam Braes fired a shot a few minutes later to give the Canes a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes. The shots were even 9-9 and Lethbridge held the edge 25-19 following two periods of play.

In the third period, the Canes would make it a 6-1 game on another goal by Cam Braes. Kootenay responded on a goal from Reinhart and after that it was all Lethbridge. Russ Maxwell scored his second of the night as well as a pair from Tayler Balog. The Hurricanes would skate away with a 9-3 victory. The final shots on goal ended up favouring Lethbridge 40-24. Tanner Kovacs got the win in goal.

The Hurricanes improve to 1-4 in exhibition play. They'll wrap up the pre-season Saturday against the Calgary Hitmen, also played in Coleman.

Thanks,
Pat

  4. Ola Pat. Long time no talk to. Must be Hockey Season again as we have reconnected.
For some reason, the Canes games don't update on the WHL site. Since you are the GURU of all things Canes, please post the results of the game with the Hitmen tonight in the Pass.

Can't wait for the season to start and listen to you and Freddie on all the road games. Good luck to you guys this year and don't forget: The 2 of you are as good a broadcast team as exists in the WHL.

Canes Memorial Cup hosts in 2016 !!
