Hurricanes Hosting Wheaties

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will play host the Brandon Wheat Kings tonight at the ENMAX Centre.

This will be the first of four games this season between the two teams. The Canes' will travel to Brandon for a re-match November 12th. The Canes' are trying to find a way to get things going on home-ice. They have just one victory in five games in Lethbridge this season. With the overwhelming majority of the Canes' remaining games before the Christmas break at home, it's important they begin to string together some wins at the ENMAX Centre. Hurricanes forward Cam Braes told CJOC's Fred Jack at the end of the 5-2 loss to Vancouver on Wednesday that, "We've got to have a better start to the game on Saturday against Brandon and our power play has got to be better. We need to just play a complete 60 minutes and finally give the ENMAX fans their money's worth when they come to watch us play."

The Wheaties roll into town at the end of a very long trip. They've been away from southern Manitoba now for over two weeks and will be heading back to Brandon after this game tonight. The Wheat Kings have been out west, made a tour through the B.C. Division, Kootenay last night and Lethbridge this evening before heading back home. This road swing hasn't been kind to Brandon. They finally ended a nine game losing streak with a 3-1 victory in Kelowna earlier this week and managed to follow that up with a win the next night in Kamloops. The Wheaties are lead by Mark Stone and Scott Glennie offensively.

Tonight's game starts at 7:00 pm (MDT). The pre-game show on CJOC at 6:30. This will also be the Hurricanes Halloween game. Fans are encouraged to wear costumes and prizes will be given out for best costume for both youth and adults.

Upcoming in November

November will be a busy month for the Hurricanes. The team will play 12 games, including four games in five nights next week. The Canes' have a number of other big items coming up over the next few weeks too. On November 10th, the Hurricanes will host the Calgary Hitmen. All fans are asked to wear red to that game as the Hurricanes will honour the Canadian Armed Forces in recognition of Remembrance Day the following day. The Canes' big initiative in November will be Pink in the Rink. November 19th and 20th, the Hurricanes will host Prince Albert and Saskatoon respectively. On those nights, the Hurricanes will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off and all the money raised will go to supporting the fight against Breast Cancer. Last season, the Pink in the Rink event raised well over $20, 000 for the cause. The Hurricanes will also hold their annual Celebrity Sports Dinner and Auction November 26th at the Coast Lethbridge Hotel and Conference Centre. The event will have a comedy flair this year. Canadian Comedian Gerry Dee will be the main act. There are still tickets available for that. $75.00 a person or $500 for a table. The event has sold out every year. Over $200,000 has been raised over the passed five years for local organizations and charities thanks to the dinner and auction. Don't forget as well that until November 15th, staff from SHAW Cable will be at Hurricanes home games collecting donations for the Lethbridge and Interfaith food banks. Bring a non-perishable food item to the next four Hurricanes home games and help support the two local food banks.

Thanks,
Pat
