Hurricanes Camp Opens Today

Well, this is the day Lethbridge Hurricanes fans have been waiting for since the season ended way back om March 13th.

It has certainly been a long off-season for this Lethbridge team and I know everyone is chomping at the bit to get things started. I know the coaching staff is especially excited. Rich Preston will get his first good look at the players when the on-ice sessions start tonight.

Players will be arriving today between 3pm-5pm for registration at the Adams Ice Centre on the northside. There will be a player/parent orientation after that and then at 7 o'clock the first practices will take place as the players will be divided into four different teams: A, B, C, and D. There are 70 players invited to this camp. I'll have a camp roster posted in the next few hours.

I know for a lot of people involved with the Hurricanes, myself included this is an exciting time to get back at it after so much time away from the rink. Expectations, no question have to be and are much higher after the Hurricanes posted just 20 victories all of last season. The overwhelming majority of players are returning from last year's team, but as Preston said at the end of last season, that doesn't guarantee anyone a spot on the team this year. Every player will have to work hard to make the squad I, for one am looking forward to seeing the competition. I know a lot of the fans are too. I'll post a few interviews with some of the players late this afternoon or early this evening. Below is a complete training camp schedule for the Canes. All on-ice sessions are open to the public.

8:30 – 9:15 AM – Team C Practice (Goalies – 8:15)
9:45 – 10:30 AM – Team D Practice (Goalies – 9:30)
11:00 – 12:30 PM – Team A vs. Team B Scrimmage
2:00 – 3:00 PM – Team C vs. Team D Scrimmage
4:30 – 6:00 PM – Team A vs. Team B Scrimmage

Saturday, September 4th – 1st Annual Charity Intrasquad Tournament Begins
9:00 – 10:30 AM – Team 1 vs. Team 2

2:30 – 4:00 PM – Team 1 vs. Team 2
5:00 – 6:30 PM – Team 3 vs. Team 4

Sunday, September 5th – Intersquad Finals in support of the Lethbridge United Way
9:00 – 10:30 AM – Consolation Final
12:30 – 2:00 PM – Championship Game
