Camp Day Two....New Look for CJOC

Hurricanes training camp continued for the first full day of sessions on Friday.

A few games were played on day two. Team "B" routed Team "A" 7-0. Jaimen Yakubowski had two goals, while Mitch Guiel and Jamal Watson had one goal and one assist each to lead the way. Scrimmage two had Team "C" take on team "D" is a battle of the veterans. Austin Fyten has one goal and two helpers as team "D" won 5-3. Brennan Yadlowski had one goal and one assist for team "C" in a losing cause. The third game saw team "A" take on Team "B" for a second time. This time Team "A" bounced back with a 5-4 overtime win. Craig Leverton lead the way with a pair of goals. Zach Mantyka scored the O.T. winner. Before the day started, I had a chance to talk to a few players. Returning defenceman Mike Reddington was all smiles. He took some time to talk about his upcoming overage season in the WHL. Mike Reddington: "This year coming up means a lot to me. It's hard to believe it's my overage year already. It just seems like yesterday that I was playing my first game as a 15 year old in Prince George. I'm really excited for this year. I think we'll have a much better team and I'm really looking forward to it. I also think any time you have seven returning defencemen that makes you a stronger team. I know I'll also have to play a serious leadership roll this year. In fact, all three 20 year olds will have to do that. I had a busy off-season shoveling asphalt full-time so the summer went by fast. I'm in pretty good shape this year. I've been doing a lot of running in Vancouver on Grouse Mountain. I'm ready!"

Veteran forward Austin Fyten told me he's ready to make amends for a rough season last year. He can't wait to get things started. Fyten: "It feels good to be back. First day at camp and it's great to get back on the ice with the boys, it's good! We have some good young guys coming in too. It was a long off-season, so it's great to be back. 70 in camp this year is a little more than usual, but I think there are going to be a few changes this year after last year's struggles. The vets need to come in this year ready to compete. I think this needs to be a big year for me and a few others too. We have to step up and be leaders on this team now. It's our turn to step up in some big rolls and lead this team. I'm looking for big things this year. We need put last year's struggles behind us and start fresh."

New Look for CJOC Radio

At the top of this post, you likely noticed our new CJOC logo which our company unveiled earlier today. We will now be known as "Classic Hits", 94.1 CJOC. Our music format stays the same as we focus on the 60's, 70's, and 80's. We are rolling out a brand new website at http://www.cjocfm.com/ and it should be up and running late this weekend. In the days to come as well, CJOC listeners will be treated to an information packed iPhone app. I'll have details in the next few days once that's up and running and online to be downloaded from iTunes. The app will include a listen live feature, direct links to CJOC's award winning news & sports coverage and much more. We are very excited about our new look! CJOC will continue to be the broadcast voice of the Lethbridge Hurricanes with myself and Fred Jack calling all the action starting September 24th when the Canes' open the new season in Calgary. We officially starts our season September 20th at 6pm MDT with our first edition of "Hurricanes This Week" and our Hurricanes Media Roundtable.

Thanks,
Pat
