I think Forsberg has a very good chance of going first overall for a couple reasons. His bro Jesse plays there so the transition seems natural. Secondly, he is "one" of the top talents in the draft this season. However, in saying that, there are several other players who may produce at Alex level in years to come. Those players are Brian Williams from California, Madison Bowey (dman from Winnipeg), Matt Needham from Penticton who had 225 pts in 55 bantam games this season. Matt is the son of former Blazer star Mike Needham from the 80's. Small, shifty player from BC, Nic Petan. Power forward in the making Anthony Ast from BWC. A pair of Dmen from Alberta are studs as well, Josh Morrissey and Jesse Lees from Calgary are bonified top 10 talents. Craig Leverton and Cory Millette are a couple forwards who will garner a high selection. In the case of Leverton, he could be the best power forward in the draft. Power forwards develop a bit slower but he is a good one. BC has two very good defenceman leading the way in Joseph Cavalho and Kyle Burroughs who are first round talents. Southern Alberta looks strong this year with a very good players coming from Saskatchewan in the top half of the first round. BC has several stars and good depth. Manitoba is hmmmm Manitoba.

Any truth that Carter is playing for the ECHL?
ReplyDeleteI've heard a few rumours myself actually. Nothing confirmed. The Abbotsford Heat apparently.

Where do you hear these rumours, Pat? Look for the Hurricanes to take a good look at the Leverton kid. The team needs to get bigger and I've talked to some people who really like Leverton's work rate and compete level. He's a big kid with that drive-to-the-net mentality. Natch, none of us know enough to say conclusively, but you've got to think size and position count for something. I have confidence in Robson's ability to judge these kids. That being said, they won't make any impact at all for three seasons. No one in this draft with Nugent-Hopkins' Sakic-like ability

Put it this way, I've got to know some VERY talented newspaper reporters whom I have a deep respect for!
