Four Hurricanes Heading to NHL Development Camps

The Lethbirdge Hurricanes Hockey Club would like to congratulate four members of the 2016-2017 roster on being invited to National Hockey League Development Camps as Jordy Bellerive, Giorgio Estephan, Stuart Skinner and Tyler Wong will take part in camps.

Bellerive, 18, had been invited to take part at the defending two-time Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins camp. Bellerive, who was passed over in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft on the weekend, is one of 24 forwards invited to take part in the Penguins camp from June 28 until July 1 at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry, Pennsylvania. The product of North Vancouver appeared in 70 games during the 2016-2017 regular season with the Hurricanes registering a career-high 56 points (27g-29a) along with 86 penalty minutes. He added 14 points (7g-7a) in 20 post-season games.

Estephan, 20, will take part at the Minnesota Wild’s development camp. The 1997-born forward was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft but was unsigned. Estephan had a career season with the Hurricanes in 2016 2017 scoring 89 points (35g-54a) along with 39 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games. Estephan added 24 points (11g-13a) in 18 post-season games.
Skinner, 18, will compete in the Edmonton Oilers development camp. The three year Hurricanes goaltender was drafted by his hometown Oilers in the third round (78th overall) in the 2017 draft. Skinner is the all-time Hurricanes leader in games played by a goaltender (151) and saves (4,462). In a career-high 60 games in 2016-2017, Skinner posted a record of 34-18-3-2 with a 3.26 goals against average (GAA) and a .926 save percentage (SV%) with two shutouts. He appeared in all 20 Hurricanes post-season games earning a 3.09 GAA and a .916 SV%.

Wong, 21, will suit up at the Vegas Golden Knights camp that started on June 26. Wong completed his WHL career with the Hurricanes in 2016-2017 recording a career-high 51 goals and 109 points. He added 24 points (11g-13a) in 20 post season games. The product of Cochrane, Alberta signed an American Hockey League contract with the Golden Knights AHL affiliate the Chicago Wolves on May 18th.
