Six Hurricanes Heading to NHL Camps

The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is excited to announce that six players will be attending National Hockey League camps, including: Tyler Wong, Giorgio Estephan, Brayden Burke, Egor Babenko, Brady Reagan and the newly acquired Brennan Menell.

Wong, 20, will attend the Toronto Maple Leafs training camp along with former Hurricanes defenseman Andrew Nielsen. The Hurricanes Captain signed an Amateur Try-Out with the Maple Leafs American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, after the WHL season ended last year. Wong appeared in three games with the Marlies in 2015-2016 registering one assist. The Cochrane, Alberta product also took part in the Maple Leafs Rookie Development Camp in the summer.

Estephan, 19, will take part in the Buffalo Sabres training camp. The Edmonton, Alberta product was drafted by the Sabres in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round (152nd overall). Estephan appeared in six AHL games after the Hurricanes season completed dressing with the Sabres affiliate, the Rochester Americans. The centre-man had one goal in his six appearances. He also took part in the Sabres Rookie Development camp in the spring before spending the entire summer in Buffalo.

Burke, 19, has been invited to take part in the Calgary Flames camp after being passed up in the NHL Draft in June. The Edmonton, product finished third in Western Hockey League scoring in 2015-2016 registering 109 points (27g-82a) and a plus-36 rating. Burke took part in the Flames Development camp in the spring and will attend the Young Stars prospect tournament in Penticton with Calgary.

Babenko, 19, is going to attend Arizona Coyotes camp. The Tyumen, Russia product is coming off a great rookie season with the Hurricanes where he accumulated 69 points (29g-40a) along with a plus-26 in 67 games last year. He took part in the Coyotes Rookie Development camp in the spring.
Reagan, 19, is set to take part in Ottawa Senators camp. The rugged rearguard from Calgary is coming off a career year with the Hurricanes last season that saw him register 20 points (6g-14a) and a plus-22 rating in 71 games. He was invited to the Senators development camp.


Menell, 19, will participate in Philadelphia Flyers camp. The Minnesota native was recently acquired by the Hurricanes. The right-hand shot defenseman had 53 points (7g-46a) last season with the Vancouver Giants.

  1. Hey Pat, maybe this has been covered before but has somebody officially said Neilsen wasn't coming back? Or is it just an assumption by people that he won't return? Thanks
