Hurricanes Beat Oil Kings 8-4

The Lethbridge Hurricanes got back to their winning ways Saturday with a convincing 8-4 win over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings.

The victory ended a five game losing skid for the Canes and improved their overall record to 41-20-1-1 on the season. With Brandon losing in overtime Saturday in Medicine Hat, the win also moved the Hurricanes into a tie again for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Edmonton opened the scoring just over four minutes into this game with a goal from Dysin Mayo, but after that the Hurricanes offence took over with four goals in the first period. Cory Millette with his 27th of the season, followed by Tyler Wong's team-leading 37th of the year. Then Ryley Lindgren put home his 25th and Jordy Bellerive capped it off with his first of two on the night and his 6th of the season. That made it 4-1 Lethbridge after 20 minutes of play.

In the second, Edmonton's Brandon Baddock cut the Hurricanes lead to 4-2 with a power play goal, however the Canes added a couple of power play goals of their own shortly after. Brayden Burke scored his 23rd with man advantage and then Andrew Nielsen a few minutes later with his 16th of the season and that put Lethbridge up 6-2 after two periods of play.

In the third, the goals kept coming. Jordy Bellerive scored his second of the night and 7th of the year on the power play to put the Canes up 7-2. Edmonton got a couple more goals before the end of the game, one from Colton Kehler and the other from Brett Pollock. The Canes final goal of the night was courtesy of Brady Reagan, his 5th of the season and that was it. The Hurricanes won big, 8-4.

With nine games to go in the regular season the Hurricanes found a way to end their longest slide of the year and they did it by scoring often.

The Hurricanes now hit the road for their four games. They travel to Moose Jaw Wednesday (Mar. 2). Then it's off to Saskatoon Friday (Mar. 4) and Prince Albert Saturday (Mar. 5).

Thanks,
Pat

  1. Great breakout game for the Canes, hopefully they've shaken the Funk. Am a little worried when Anholt said #9 is back soon and he's listed 1-3 weeks, and #23 he didn't know when he'd be back but hes listed Day to Day. Seems like there might be more going on with #23s injury. Hopefully there back soon. Would be nice to get a real injury report like Pat used to give when he was calling the Games and the half hour shows pre and post where great. 106.7s coverage is somewhat lacking.
