Canes Beat Raiders 5-4 in P.A.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes added win number 21 to their record with a 5-4 victory Tuesday night in Prince Albert.

Justin Gutierrez lead with way with a goal and one assist while Stuart Skinner was solid between the pipes in this one.

The Hurricanes opened the scoring with a power lay goal from Gutierrez, his 16th of the season to make it 1-0 Lethbridge just over half way into the period. Tyler Wong put the visitors up 2-0 with under three minutes left when he scored his team-leading 22nd of the season. But before the period ended, the Raiders got one back thanks to a goal from Luke Coleman, cutting the Hurricanes lead to 2-1 after one.

In the second, Giorgio Estpehan put the Canes up by two again with his 13th of season, making it 3-1 Lethbridge. P.A. responded with a goal from Jordan Tkatch, again making it a one goal game in favour of the Hurricanes. The Canes again took a two goal lead when Brady Reagan put home his 2nd of the year. That was a shorthanded goal as well and gave the Hurricanes a 4-2 lead through 40 minutes of play.

In the third, the Hurricanes jumped ahead 5-2 when Egor Babenko scored his 17th of the season. Again Prince Albert would make things interesting with a pair of quick goals from Parker Kelly and Jordan Tkatch. That cut the Hurricanes lead to 5-4 very fast. The Hurricanes though were able to hold off the Raiders in the final 10:00 of the period and would skate a way with a one goal victory.

The win improves the Hurricanes overall record to 21-11 on the season. The Raiders out shot Lethbridge 41-28 in the game. The Hurricanes went 1/5 on the power play and also scored a shorthanded goal. P.A. went 1/3.

The Hurricanes have won 8 of their last 10 games and are 2-1 so far on this 6 game pre-Christmas road trip. Their next action is Wednesday (Dec. 16) when they travel to Saskatoon. The Blades are struggling with just two wins in their last 10 starts. The Canes will head to Edmonton Friday and Red Deer Saturday before getting a 9 day Christmas break.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. I saw two hits from behind in this game that could have resulted in Canes in wheelchairs. I hope that those PA players are suspended by the WHL's disciplinary moron.

The Canes impress again! From Shut out to stand out; way to go, lads! I hated when the Pats were able to barely hang on during the final ten minutes to beat the Canes in Regina after surrendering 4 straight, but it sure was great when the Canes hung on for the win despite a strong PA push.

So much for owning the third period! We have seen more leads padded and wins earned by the Canes this year during the final twenty than we have seen leads surrendered.

I think that their opponent tonight (Blades) are more capable than their record shows. I sure hope that the Canes remember their work boots.

    Happy Wednesday!
