Rockets Down Hurricanes 6-3 at ENMAX Centre

Leon Draisaitl and Gage Quinney each scored twice as the WHL-leading Kelowna Rockets beat the Lethbridge Hurricans 6-3 Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.

The Rockets opened the scoring with a pair of goals from Draisaitl. The Rockets star player scored just 1:26 into the first period making it 1-0. He followed that up a mid-way through the period with his second of the night giving Kelowna a 2-0 lead. Four minutes later Madison Bowey put the visitors ahead 3-0 and before the end of the period Gage Quinney found the back of the net for his fist of two on the night to give the Rockets a commanding 4-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.

In the second, Quinney scored again, this time on a power play to make it 5-0 Kelowna. The Hurricanes got one of those back when Andrew Nielsen scored his 6th of the season with the man advantage to cut the lead to 5-1 through two periods of play.
In the third, the Rockets made it a 6-1 hockey game when Justin Kirkland scored.  Before the end of the game Lethbridge managed to score twice more. Giorgio Estephan, who's been playing some great hockey lately scored his 12th of the season to cut the lead to 6-2 and then before the final buzzer sounded Jamal Watson notched his 17th goal of the season to make it 6-3 and that's the way this game would end.

The Rockets heavily out shot the Hurricanes 51-25 on the night. Both teams finished the game 1/4 with the power play. The loss drops the Canes overall record to 12-30-3-3 in 48 games. The Hurricanes next action is Saturday (Jan. 31) when they host the Regina Pats. Game time is 7:00 pm MST from the ENMAX Centre.

The Canes head to Edmonton Tuesday (Feb. 3) before returning home Friday (Feb. 6) to host the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Thanks,
Pat
