Hurricanes Beat P.A. For Third Straight Win

The Lethbridge Hurricanes did something Saturday night this team hasn't done in nearly two years, win three games in a row.

The Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert hasn't been very kind to the Hurricanes over the past few seasons, but it was on this night. The Canes got off to another quick start, this time courtesy of Taylor Cooper. He scored at 4:24 of the opening period to give Lethbridge a 1-0 lead. That was also his second goal of the season.

In the second, the Canes would jump ahead by a pair late in the period when Dexter Bricker got on the score sheet with his 2nd goal of the season to make it 2-0 Hurricanes through two periods of play. Taylor Cooper assisted on the goal as well for his second point of the night.

In the third, the visitors jumped ahead 3-0 when Andrew Neilson scored his first-ever WHL goal on a power play at 12:29. That pretty much put the game away. It looked as if Skinner was on his way to his first Western Hockey League shutout, but with 40 seconds remaining in the game, Jayden Hart beat the Lethbridge rookie goalie to break his shutout bid and cut the Hurricanes lead to 3-1. That's the way this game would end.

The Raiders out shot the Hurricanes 25-24 in what was a fairly close game from start to finish. Lethbridge went 1/2 on the power play and Prince Albert was 0/4. The victory improves the Canes overall record to 4-8-0-1 in 13 games. It's the first time since November 3, 7, 9 of 2012 that the Hurricanes have won three games in a row.

The Hurricanes deserve a tonne of credit. Sure, besides Edmonton these last two victories have come against teams near the bottom of the standings, but a win is a win and that can build confidence for a hockey club that hasn't had much luck winning games the last few seasons. There is no doubt in my mind that Stuart Skinner is the calming force for this group. He is the real deal and it wouldn't shock me in the least if he's not already turning heads of NHL scouts at the young age of 15. Right now, in my opinion he's the Hurricanes MVP and Rookie of the Year by a country mile, although we are only nearing the quarter way point in the season coming up.

The Hurricanes next game is Sunday (Oct. 26) when they travel to Regina to take on the Pats. Regina beat the Canes 6-1 last week in Lethbridge so the Hurricanes will be looking for some revenge in this game. The Hurricanes return home for two games next week to close out October. On Wednesday (Oct. 29) Prince Albert is in town and then Friday (Oct. 31) Reid Duke makes his return to Lethbridge as a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings for a game on Halloween night.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. As I posted on the fan forum, it is great to see three in a row. Hopefully the lads can make it four tonight. I still have zero faith or belief in Berehowsky as a coach or Robson as a GM for that matter but I have always been a supporter of and believer in the players and I am very happy to see them experiencing some success.

    Good luck tonight!

  2. Hurricanes played a great road game. Few lucky bounces with hard work. Only downside was no shutout which was hard to see cause Skinner could almost taste it. Overall it's great to be Able to enjoy watching a Hurricanes Game again. As much as some of the trades have been horrible, the Zane Jones trade looks like an excellent pick up. And even if the Skinner draft pick was lucky still got em here.
    Keep it up Canes.

  3. Nice to see the PLAYERS get rewarded, as they are the innocent bystanders caught up in this mess of a franchise!!

  4. Guys i don't why you wanted to blow up the season so early. They have been close in almost every game and they have been playing hard. Yea they had been out shoot badly in games but they have been close. It don't matter how you the W in my opinion. In the east there is about top 2 teams in every conference. Every one else is a 500 ream or below. What im trying to say is if the canes get to 500 hockey and stay there, which i think they can. They might be in the mix for the playoffs. As a fan all i want to see is a competitive team that puts in hard work every night. As long as they do that wins will start to come. Thanks pat for keeping your canes blog up and thank you for broadcasting. Its not right hearing you as the voice as the hurricanes haha.

  5. If my math is correct, we could leap frog PA and be in a tie with Regina for the last Wildcard spot. Keep it up.
    Long Run.

  6. If Skinner is not the goaltender/player of the week in the WHL it will be a complete travesty. Three road wins in a row, GA of under 2 and still lots of shots, plus the "franchise" is still 15 until Nov 1st.

Peter, as for the drafting of Skinner being "lucky". Robson had planned on drafting the top bantam goaltender in Alberta as their first pick in the first round. It was planned.....not lucky.

    1. Hey Alfred E ! Why did you not mention Edmonton ? Were they under achieving and missing players too ? Or did that game not count as a good effort?

    3. Anonymous 22:26 A comedian you are? Or just another negative person who gets some kind of joy righting crap! It's beyond me why people who dislike the Canes would put any effort into something that is so horrible, the only thing I can come up with is that you all feel powerful when righting your crap and don't tell me it's about the Kids because you are putting them down to when righting this stuff. GET A LIFE

  9. Canes don't rock. Serious guy you have it out for the canes it's pretty bad you have nothing but negative words to say and wait for the chance to pounce. You must have worked for the organization and got fired or a pissed off player/ agent. You need to take your energy and put it towards something good in life. Sad to see this affects you so much.

His greatest accomplishment was in his last year in school at the age of 20 .He was by far the top athlete of his class in every event. academically he was lacking though . That was grade one.
He succeeded in getting a job at the Enmax Centre cleaning toilets , but he got fired for sitting down on the job too much . Nothing after that. That is why he is so angry.
